How to Embrace a Colourful Wardrobe This Autumn

Autumn is a season of change, so it’s a perfect time for you to mix things up in your wardrobe. Maybe you’ve spent a few years playing it safe and sticking to dark shades and denim. Even though this time of year can feel a bit drab, it doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to be. Here are some simple steps to add some colour for your autumn outfits.

Accessories

If your autumn wardrobe mainly consists of dark colours, and you’re not sure how you feel about lots of colour then why don’t you start small? You can pick a neutral dress and style it out with accessories. Take a black dress and add a pop of colour with a chunky red necklakce. Autumn is such a rustic season, so be inspired by natural materials for your jewellery. Alternatively, a handbag is a great way to add colour into your everyday looks.

Seasonal Colours

So you’ve nailed a couple of the accessories and feel ready to start adding a couple more layers of colours into your outfits. Autumn, despite getting colder, is such a warm season in terms of its colour pallete and your wardrobe can reflect this. You want to think rich burgundy, smokey orange or burnt yellow. This season is all about layering so pick colours that compliment one another rather than clash. Just because you’re dressing brighter, doesn’t mean you should look garrish. According to Vogue a fierce red is a look to strive for this season.

Statement Coat

Speaking of co-ordinating your colours, there is one piece that is very important you get right. The coat. You will be wearing this nearly everyday and it’s got to be comfortable, practical for the weather, and you want to look good wearing in. No pressure! If you don’t have too much colour in your wardrobe already, this is where a statement coat could really come into its own. If you’re looking to get a new one for this season, there are plenty of options out there for you.

Recycle Summer

Just because summer is coming to an end, doesn’t mean your wardrobe has to be put away until next year. You know all those summer dresses you have? Why not restyle them with a long t-shirt or poloneck underneath them? Or you could wear your floaty skirts with thick tights and chunky boots. Don’t be afraid to mix and match between your seasonal outfits. You’ll look great, not to mention it’s also good for sustatainbility.

You can start small when it comes to adding colour to your wardobe, and then slowly build from there. Use this as a time to get creative and discover your new favourite look. What do you like to wear during this time of year?
