Hotheads Extensions at Blyss Salon

I’ve always been very unlucky when it comes to my hair. I damaged it beyond all recognition when I was in high school, and have been paying for it ever since. It simply does not grow past my shoulders, so it’s only natural that I’ve experimented with hair extensions. I’ve used glue-ins before (remember that damage I mentioned?), but I haven’t ventured into that territory for a number of years. I recently had the urge to have long hair again, and luckily Blyss Salon was kind enough to introduce me to the world of tape extensions – and now I can’t imagine being without them.

Blyss Salon is my favorite hair salon in Toronto, and it is located in Yorkville. My incredible hair stylist Sandra (ask for her when you make your appointment – she is wonderful) used a brand of hair extensions called Hotheads. One of the things I was most amazed by was how perfect the colour match was. I have ombre hair, so I was worried that we would need to dye my real hair before adding the extensions. Luckily, Hotheads carries a huge range of colours, and Sandra was able to match a set of extensions to my real hair, so it looks literally seamless.

I would only suggest getting tape extensions (or any extensions, for that matter) if you only wash your hair once or twice a week. The direct heat from styling (including blow drying), as well as creamy conditioners can deactivate the glue between the pieces of surgical tape used to keep the extensions in place. They can be completely brushed and styled as usual, and you won’t believe how natural they look. But just like with your own hair, you must take care of your new hair! This means using good quality conditioners, as extensions don’t get the benefit of your natural oils as your own hair does. Moisturize moisturize moisturize!  And be sure to use a good heat protectant before heat styling your new tresses to keep them looking healthy and gorgeous. The better you take care of your extensions, the better they will look and feel, and who doesn’t want that?
