Gloria Gaynor is doing her part in the battle against COVID 19

2020 has already been pretty weird and it just keeps devolving.  As we find ourselves in the throes of a global pandemic, one celebrity is using Tiktok as a tool against the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

As the virus continues to infect hundreds of thousands of people around the world, health authorities are emphasizing the importance of hand washing as a means to slow its spread. The widely shared recommendation has been to wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or about the time it takes to sing happy birthday to yourself twice, to ensure a thorough clean.  But Legendary singer/songwriter Gloria Gaynor has come up with a more adult, and much more fun alternative, and is using TikTok to get everyone on board.

Gaynor has embraced the viral app sensation as a tool to spread a very important message about self-care, hygiene and caring for your community.  TikTok users have already popularized the hashtag #iwillsurvive by posting videos of themselves lipsyncing to Gaynor’s global small hit of the same name. Now, Gaynor has taken to TikTok with her own video using the “I Will Survive” Hashtag, all about, you guessed it, handwashing!  Captioned with “It only takes 20 seconds to ‘SURVIVE'”, the video shows Gaynor singing along to her own tune while thoroughly and diligently washing her hands.  You can watch the video here.

“For the past 41 years, I have watched and listened to how ‘I Will Survive’ has given hope, encouragement and inspiration to my fans around the globe.
It is my hope and desire that this song will continue to bless and
heal you during these trying times.”
– Gloria Gaynor

As a global music legend who tours the world each year, Gaynor found herself very concerned about the spread of this disease.  It’s incredible that she’s using her platform and fame educate the public on awareness and prevention.  And fans have been thrilled to jump on board, making their own videos to show  how Gaynor has inspired them to take the necessary steps to prevent the spread of the virus.

In a time of panic, fear and global anxiety, it’s reassuring to see people come together, from celebrities to every day folks, to do what they can to look out for each other.  Let us know how you feel about Corona/COVID-19 on social media through our handle @weraddicted.  Stay safe out there!
