FOXTROTT comes to Toronto

Tomorrow night Toronto will be importing an incredible Quebecois talent to the Drake Underground. FOXTROTT will be bringing her beautiful beats to West Queen West and you can bet that I’ll be in attendance.

FOXTROTT aka Marie-Helene Delorme is a self-taught singer, songwriter, producer and beat-maker from French-speaking Montreal. Raised in an extremel musical family, this third-generation Montrealer cultivated a lifelong relationship with music that can be traced back to piano and violin lessons as a child. It was her personal discovery of hip hop, reggae, and electronic music that led her to pursue production, playing a large part in shaping her musical DNA and crafting a unique sound with all these elements.Delorme began her musical career by releasing remixes and supplying beats for other local talents.   In 2012 she adopted the moniker FOXTROTT and released her debut, Shields, an emotionally arresting three-track EP. “I was making a lot of beats and stuff, but I needed to express something deeper’ Delorme says of FOXTROTT’s inception. FOXTROTT stretched her live performance wings with shows like those at Pop Montreal and M For Montreal in 2013, and the ears of the musican mavens at Noisey, NME, Elle, Brooklyn Vegan and Line of Best Fit, all perked up to listen. The talent spoke for itself, as all these publications and more flagged FOXTROTT as One to Watch.

Newly signed to One Little Indian, FOXTROTT is ready unleash some new music upon the world.  A quirky, catchy and highly original track, ‘Driven’ comes ot us from her forthcoming debut LP A Taller Us. Of the creative impulses steering the record, Marie-Helene explains “My goal was to find the perfect balance between rhythms and frequencies, the production style that I wanted to put forward, and lyrics and emotional presence expressed by the voice. It was a big challenge I set myself,” she acknowledges. It was a challenge that the songstress definitely rose to. Check out the track for yourself below:

FOXTROTT will be giving Toronto a taste of Montreal tomorrow night at the Drake Underground, the intimate venue the perfect setting for her unique style of music. Check out the Facebook invitation here for more information and see you there!
