Fashion Fix: Hendrixroe

Meeting Jordan Erin McKay is an unforgettable experience.  The HENDRIXROE founder and creative director is the personification of her brand; bright, colorful, full of life but with an unmistakable, and of course playful, edge.  She’s got a heart of gold, a megawatt smile, and a fashion line that we just can’t get enough of.

It was McKay’s charisma that actually put her on the path that she’s on now.  It was a chance encounter with a complete stranger that inspired the aspiring lawyer, turned designer, to leave law school and follow her dreams into the world of fashion. After a successful first season as a womenswear line, HENDRIXROE debuted the inaugural menswear collection in the spring of 2016 to an overwhelmingly positive response. The brand has since continued to expand with larger men’s and women’s collections with plans to incorporate accessories and children’s clothes in the future.

Inspired by the vintage rock and roll style of Jimi Hendrix and old Hollywood glamour of Marilyn Monroe, HENDRIXROE exemplifies “glamorous rocker chic” to perfection with close attention to construction, fabric, and silhouettes.

Jason Priestley, Francesco Yates, Jennifer Beals, Tyler Shaw, Kardinal Offishall, Lauren Lee Smith, Natasha Negovanlis, Choclair, Taveeta, Kreesha Turner, Strumbellas, Emilia McCarthy, Shannon Kook, Cheryl Hickey, Emmanual Kabongo, Marcus Rosner, Alicia Dea, Ann Pirvu, Michelle Treacy, AmmoyeJoan Kelly Walker, and Jana Webb (The Real Housewives of Toronto) are just some of the eclectic notable names who have worn Hendrixroe designs on the red carpet, on air, and in the pages of magazines.

We can’t get enough of Jordan Erin McKay or her fabulous clothes.  We got the chance to sit with her to talk about her story, while drooling over her latest collection.

Who is your personal fashion icon?

I am obsessed with Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe. So obsessed I named the brand after HENRIX (JIMI) ROE (Marilyn)

What do you love most about working in fashion?

The voice I give to people without even saying a word. Fashion has this amazing way to say so much without saying a word. That’s just so cool to me.

If you weren’t doing this, what would you be doing?

I would a lawyer for INTERPOL working in the “trafficking of human beings” sector. I am dedicated to fight as hard as I can against this disgusting billion dollar trade. That’s why I started my charity “Property Of No One”

What is the best piece of style advice you’ve ever received?

LET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY!

What do you wish someone had told you when you first started out in the fashion industry?

Truly nothing. I LOVE that every day is a new lesson, my father’s a lawyer and he always would say: “The day I am no longer scared to walk in the courtroom for a case is the day I resign.” I hold those words close to my heart. Every day is a new fight and struggle but as my brand manager, Rachel recently said to me ,“if it was easy you wouldn’t want it,” and she’s right. I love the struggle. I am reborn everyday with every obstacle. The unknown is terrifying, yet so exciting.

If you had any advice for people who aspire to work in fashion, what would it be?

If this is your passion, do it don’t waste another moment to follow your dreams.  It’s going beat you up and spit you so be prepared for the fight of your life, It’s not glamorous at all but it is so WORTH IT. SO FIGHT!!!!

HENDRIXROE retails from $150 to $5000 CND and is designed in Toronto, Canada. For retailer announcements or more information, visit hendrixroe.com.
