Every woman wants her whip – The Acura ILX

To many women, a car is a bit of a grudge purchase – it’s a tool to get you from point A to point B, and a pricey one at that. But when you get past the drudgery of that spend, and open your eyes to whats on the market, you’ll find that not only are there some really great, affordable and reliable cars out there,  some of those cars are actually pretty sexy too! When I’m looking at cars, I have three key things that I look for: value, style and substance. And I found all of those three things with the Acura ILX.

The Acura ILX is, in my mind, a great car choice for any savvy lady out there looking for new wheels (and gentlemen too of course!).  I got the chance to make the Acura ILX A-Spec a part of my life for a couple of weeks and I absolutely fell in love with it. The 2016 model was a dream to drive and came fully loaded with features that makes any driver’s life safer, easier and more exciting.  So let’s take a look at what makes this car my dream car.

With the Acura ILX it’s easy to get more for your money. With a suite of packages, you can pick the car that not only suits your needs but your wallet as well. The packages start at just under $30,000, which for a car that really feels like a luxury vehicle, seems like a steal of a deal. The car is also incredibly fuel efficient for its class. Take a look below at the packages and their cost, and note that killer fuel economy!

Considering HOW much car you get for those prices, and how far that car can take you on one tank of gas, I’d say we’ve covered the value category. Now let’s move onto the good stuff.

As mentioned above, this is one sexy car. The car I drove came in a stunning stark white, making the car stand out on the road, resulting in more than a few double takes from drivers and pedestrians around me.  Its dynamic new front and rear styling cues are as beautiful as they are edgy, with stunning Jewel EyeTM LED headlights. I loved the sawblade like rims, that lent the car and edgy feel that appealed to the rock and roll lover in me.  It’s sleek body is sporty and incredibly eyecatching on the road, and I would always feel a frisson of pride, when I got behind the wheel of this car.   Once behind the wheel,  I found myself impressed by the upgraded interior materials, including aluminum sports brake and gas pedals, the edgy new high-intensity silver trim around the interior, the red instrument panel illumination and stylsh Lux-suede inserts and contrast stitching on the seats, wheel and parking brake. The ILX is luxury-quiet once you’ve settled into the driver’s seat, benefitting from additional noise-insulating materials, thicker front door glass, noise-attenuating wheels, and the adoption of Active Noise Control technology so you can enjoy your car peacefully.

The superior functionality of the Acura ILX leads the way for me on substance. This car literally makes your life easier in so many ways. First of all, I never needed to take the key out of my purse. EVER. All I needed was the key on my person, and the car would lock, unlock and start with just a touch of the door handle and a push of the remote start button. There’s literally no way you can lose your keys to this car, it’s fantastic.

Once you’re in and you’ve got your motor running, that’s where the fun begins. This car was built to MOVE, and handles like a sports car, even though it’s technically a sedan. In tech speak, the ILX’s new 2.4-litre, 16-valve, direct-injected DOHC i-VTEC engine produces peak output of 201 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 180 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm, up 51 horsepower and 40 lb.-ft. a serious upgrade on the former model’s 2.0 litre engine. The new engine is paired with a new 8-speed dual clutch transmission (8DCT) with torque converter and paddle-controlled Sequential Sport Shift. This transmission is the most advanced compared to the ILX’s competition, delivering quick, and intuitive gear changes, that result in superiour performance, handling, and fuel efficiency.

While I was in the Acura ILX I felt like I was driving a road safe racecar. Acura went above and beyond for this class of vehicle, and made award winning safety technology STANDARD in the ILX. AcuraWatch, AJAC’s pick for Best New Safety Technology, is a suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies that helps keeps you safe on the road. The Adaptive Cruise Control helps keep you in your lane with Lane Keeping Assist System – it’s like the car is driving itself (but please make sure you’re still paying attention!). The Multi-View Rear Camera moves with you and guides you safely into your spot. The coolest thing to me was the Road Departure Mitigation and a Collision Mitigation Braking System™, that also includes Forward Collision Warning. The car warns you if you’re veering out of your lane without signaling, it warns you if you’re getting too close to the car ahead of you, it warns you if there’s a car in your blindspot (on the premium packages) AND it can also sense pedestrians. I have never felt so safe in a car before the Acura ILX. This car is literally built to look out for you and those around you.

And finally, if you’re someone who loves to listen to his or her own personal soundtrack, or need to talk calls while on the road, you’re going to love this car. It was a breeze to sync my Samsung S5 to the Acuralink connectivity system, it just took a few button or touch screen taps, and once it was synced, it would resync every time I entered the vehicle. I could take calls with a tap of the steering wheel buttons, safely and easily. I could also switch between the different audio options from the steering wheels, so whether I wanted to listen to Sirius XM satellite radio, AM/FM radio or my aforementioned beloved mp3s, all those options were literally at the tips of my fingers, that never had to leave the wheel.

So if you’re shopping for a new car, and you’re looking for a car that you look great in, feel great in, and most of all, feel happy and confident about, then take a look at the Acura ILX. It’s my new dream car, and it can be yours too. All you have to do is turn that dream into a reality.

The MSRP for the 2016 ILX A-Spec is $34,890. Visit  Acura.ca for more details.
