Creating a calm, peaceful bedroom

Around one-third of your life will be spent in your bedroom. Therefore, it is vital that you create a space in which you feel relaxed and content. This does not need to be a mammoth task, but it is certainly one that you should address sooner rather than later, particularly if you’ve been struggling to get a decent night’s sleep. Continue reading for advice on creating a calm, peaceful bedroom.

Declutter the Room

Start as you mean to go on, so they say. In this case, they are absolutely right. Having an abundance of paperwork, ornaments, clothes and so on hiding away in your bedroom is unnecessary and, in fact, creates mayhem rather than calm. Have a good old sort-out prior to attempting to create your sanctuary. Give things away to charity shops and sell others at a garage sale or via Facebook marketplace, for example. Less is most certainly more, and a weight will probably be lifted from your shoulders once you get rid of all the clutter.

Bed

Whether you believe it or not, sleeping without back pain and discomfort is possible. There is absolutely zero chance of creating your ideal space in which to relax if your bed is not fit for purpose. Improving the standard and quality of your bed could be an easy fix for you. Once you have done that, pair the new bed frame and mattress with some luxurious-looking bed linen. Duck egg greenish blues and greys feel both warm and calm-inducing.

Walls

Plain-painted walls add a sense of serenity to a space. However, not everyone is lucky enough to be blessed with lump-free, smooth walls on which paint can look unsightly. Wallpaper is another great option, and there are so many different ones to choose from. A feature wall can look stunning, particularly if you are lucky enough to have a chimney breast in your room. In fact, many materials aside from wallpaper could be used to create one.

Flooring

There are many styles and colours to choose from to fit your own personal style choices. What you have underfoot is another major consideration. Carpet can feel luscious if you prefer bare feet, particularly in winter when everywhere is colder. However, dust mites, for example, are not advised if you are afflicted with allergies because it is much more challenging to keep dust-free, even with daily vacuuming. Laminate or wooden flooring may be your best bet in this case.

Furniture

Keep furniture to a minimum to prevent the space from feeling too full and, therefore, messy. Bedside tables are very useful on which to store a lamp, clock and perhaps a reading book. However, if you are short on space, choosing a cabinet instead means that you will have some extra storage beneath. Those two drawers are bound to come in useful, even if only for storing your pyjamas, nightdresses and slippers. Matching every item of furniture within your room is no longer deemed a necessity. However, this might be your best bet if you prefer a cleaner finish to a room.
