COVID-19: Making The Most Of Your Time Under Quarantine

Thanks to the coronavirus, many of us are currently living under quarantine. Not only is this an incredible inconvenience, but it can be quite frightening too because if we can’t find ways to stay busy and focussed, we might see a knock-on effect on our mental health.

Chances are, you might be relating to what we are saying, especially if you have been told you can’t go into work, or if your job has ended as a result of the pandemic.

Still, don’t panic! There are ways to use your time productively, beyond finally getting through your Netflix watchlist and spending more hours than normal beneath your duvet.

Here are some ideas that might be useful to you.

#1: Find ways to boost your income

Many of us are now living with a reduced income, perhaps with fears that we won’t be able to manage. However, there are ways to make extra money during this time, so it might be that you consider the options open to you.

Do you have any items at home that you don’t use anymore? If so, you could sell your items using Amazon, eBay, or any of the other websites that allow for eCommerce.

Do you have trading experience? Perhaps now is the time to check the state of the stock market, and use the current market volatility to your advantage. You could also use a forex broker to trade in currencies if you have experience in this area.

Do you have skills that can enable you to work at home? If you have a flair with the written word, you could research marketing companies looking for copywriters. If you have an education degree, you could offer your services as an online tutor to those parents needing to educate their kids at this time. And if you have coding experience, you could offer your services to those businesses looking to redesign their websites during this period of uncertainty. These are just a few ideas; you can find more online.

#2: Improve your career chances

If you have lost your job as a result of Covid-19, use your available time to work on your resume and portfolio. Make contact with employers and other useful contacts on social media sites such as LinkedIn. And take the following steps to improve your career chances, as when the crisis is over, you might have the opportunity to move into work quickly. Do the same if you are dissatisfied with your job because now is the perfect time to reflect on your life and what you want from it. So, make a new career plan in readiness for the future.

#3: Have fun!

Okay, so the word ‘fun’ might not be at the forefront of your mind, but rather than let thoughts of doom and gloom overwhelm you, use your free time to chill out and do things you enjoy. So, if you have any hobbies you usually do at home, spend more time with them. If you’re living with a family, play board games with them, do something creative or use any of these indoor activity ideas. And then catch up with your reading list, have a dance party in the living room, and do other fun things to fill your time, as now is the perfect opportunity to escape the stresses of work for a while.

Those were just a few ideas; you can probably think of others. So, don’t assume your time is being wasted at home, as there are ways to spend your time productively. Consider our suggestions, and then research other ideas online.
