CHASKA introduces Indian street food to Toronto

CHASKA, offers a different take on Indian food that is both delicious and fresh, prepared daily using savoury spices, with flavourful herbs and marinades in place of rich and heavy sauces.

Now here’s the thing, I love a lot of food from right around the globe, but when it gets to saucy or heavy, I’m usually out. So when we heard about CHASKA, I was interested to see what they were all about.

Building on the popularity of its first location in Mississauga, CHASKA opened a second eatery at the popular ‘Concourse Eats,’ Atrium’s food court located at 595 Bay St. The new location marked the beginning of the chain’s expansion across the GTA.

“We’re looking forward to giving people in Toronto the opportunity to enjoy Indian food the way it’s supposed to taste,” says CEO Naveen Seth.

When he was developing the concept for CHASKA, Seth tried to recapture some of his favourite memories as a child growing up in India, where his family frequently went on road trips and made sure to enjoy local dishes from road-side vendors along the way. CHASKA, which means “obsession”, is inspired by the sights, sounds and flavours of the truck stops (dhabas), food carts and open-air markets of India.

The restaurant’s food-truck inspired concept features a full truck facade, complemented by a rustic industrial feel. The open kitchen allows diners to watch as their meals are prepared.

That we did!

The meals were light yet flavourful, delicious without heavy decadence, and we were refreshed by that, to say the least.

CHASKA sources their products through farmers and suppliers who raise and prepare foods with care and responsibility. Their meats are halal, never frozen and are raised without the use of hormones, and you can really tell.

The time, effort and energy put into the food, doesn’t go without notice, it’s most probably what made our visit and our meal, so darn good.

“We know that a great meal starts with the best ingredients. The passion that we put into our recipes starts with a commitment to simple and fresh ingredients,” Seth says. “The freshness and flavours that you experience at CHASKA are a reflection of our high standards and unwavering commitment to quality.”
