Celebs Stand Up To Cancer in Toronto

The stars will align on September 5th in Toronto, as A-list celebrities and key figures from the entertainment community come together in support of Stand Up To Cancer Canada – an unprecedented live fundraising event that will take the nation by storm in its mission to stop cancer in its tracks.  After its immense success in the United States, where it has garnered endorsements from some of the biggest names in Hollywood (resulting in over $250 Million in donations since its inception in 2008), SU2C is expanding northward with the hope of rallying the Canadian public in support of ongoing cancer research.

EIF Canada brings this program to Toronto for the first time ever with an hour-long commercial-free broadcast that will air simultaneously across all four major English language networks: CBC, City, CTV and Global.  These channels will join dozens of American stations (including ABC, CBS, NBC, and FOX) to present a star-studded special event direct from Hollywood and Toronto, with the intention of utilizing the massive reach, influence and resources of the entertainment industry to help in the fight against cancer, which currently remains the leading cause of death in Canada.

In anticipation of the September 5th broadcast, a press conference was held earlier this month at the MaRS Centre in Toronto, where celebrity supporters Dan Aykroyd (Ghostbusters, The Blues Brothers), Jesse Tyler Ferguson (ABC’s Modern Family) and Kyle MacLachlan (Blue Velvet, Twin Peaks) introduced the event alongside program supporters and leading doctors in the field of cancer prevention.  The three celebrity spokespeople spoke candidly about the way that cancer has touched their own lives through friends or loved ones, and how those experiences helped motivate them to stand up and do something to help work towards a cure.

More information can be found the official SU2C Canada website, where you can also donate to the program and stand up yourself.  And don’t forget to check out the gallery below from the press conference.
