Celebrity face tips from Beau Nelson

I’m always the gal rushing from one thing to another. When I still worked for the man, it would be heading home from a long day in the office plus a commute only to have to rush out to an event. Now it’s transitioning from a day of meetings, appointments and writing to an evening of cocktails, photo opps and curated experiences. In both cases, my face needed to transition to the next stage of activities just as much as much as my outfit and mental state. This is something that celebrities are all too familiar with, but unlike me they’ve got a team of experts to help them with those transitions. So when I got the chance to learn the tricks of the trade from one of those experts, I jumped at the chance.

Celebrity makeup artist Beau Nelson has been credited with beautifying the faces of Gigi Hadid, Sienna Miller and many other celebrities. A native Canadian, Beau worked his way through the ranks of the beauty world and is now a certified expert in how to beautify on the fly. Along with being astonishingly talented, in typical Canadian fashion Beau was kind, personable and a total riot. In between gushing over our favorite beauty products, trading makeup hacks and me asking what celebrities are bitches and him demurring from answering, Beau shared his e tips on how to make your face go from OH NO to OH YES in 5 minutes flat.

Apply fresh undereye concealer

The first and easiest way to refresh your day look into night is to freshen up your undereye concealer. Rather than just apply another layer to what you’ve already got on, Beau recommends using a cleansing cloth to remove your hours old concealer to help you start from scratch. His choice of cloth is Cetaphil’s face wipes. They’re unscented which is great for your sensitive eye area, and just wet enough to remove your makeup without leaving any residue, or dripping down onto the rest of your face. Once you’ve got a fresh palette of skin to work with, apply your concealer as you normally would and you’re ready to tend to the rest of your face!

Beau’s Protip: use your Cetaphil wipes to clean your makeup brushes on the fly, especially if you’re switching between eyeshadow colours or you find your brushes caked with makeup but you don’t have time for a full wash and dry. The wipes leave your brushes clean without dampening them to the point of being unusable.

Use a cream bronzer to reglam your glow

Rather than reapplying a layer of powder bronzer, use a cream bronzer over your existing foundation for a fresh and dewy look. Beau blew me away by applying the bronzer with a big fluffy powder brush to help evenly distribute my newfound healthy glow. It’s how I apply my cream bronzer now, so definitely try it for yourself!

Highlight with what you have handy

If you’re rushing from one engagement to the next, you may not always have your entire makeup kit handy. Instead of wishing you had your favorite highlighting powder on you, pull our one of the millions of lipglosses you have rolling around in the bottom of your purse (stick with nudes, peaches, light pinks or light shimmers for this) and use the built in applicator to dot some gloss along the tops of your cheekbones. Blend lightly with your fingers and voila, a happy highlighted face with the lipgloss you had handy anyway.

Apply a fine line of liquid eyeliner

One of the easiest ways to go from day to night is by adding liquid eyeliner to your eye look. I recommend (and Beau approved) Maybelline’s Master Precise eyeliner. It’s inky with a fine enough tip to help you easily achieve that cat eye you covet in record time.

Add a pop of color to your lips

The only thing sadder than bare nails are is bare lips, especially if you need to perk yourself up after a long day and ahead of a longer (and fun) night. Pick the colour of your choice, apply (with or without liner, depending on how glam you’re going) and hit the road.

With these tips and a trusty pack of Cetaphil wipes you can head into your evening looking rested, rejuvenated and most of all looking and feeling like your most beautiful self. Thanks Beau!
