It’s always exciting when we come across a brand that not only offers a premium product but that is also passionate about giving something back to the community. So, when we found out that Belgian luxury scented candle and diffuser creators Baobab Collection tick both boxes, we had to let you know about them.
Starting out as an idea inspired by the enchanting landscape of Tanzania in 2002, Baobab Collection now offers a unique array of candles and diffusers made from glazed ceramics, hand-blown glass or metal and upholstered in leather and raffia.
Each new collection tells a story; from the Modernista Raffia collection, crotcheted by a Malagasy women’s cooperative, to the Stones collection, designed and illustrated by French artist Tiven to represent three sisters; Marble, Agate and Lazuli, no two collections are the same.
The collection that really caught our eye though, is Women. With notes of magnolia, rose and musk, the scent is fiercely feminine. Its glass is covered in a graphic printed pattern inspired by the symbol of femininity; a gold rim surrounds the powder pink pattern as a reminder of the beauty and strength of women.
What makes the Women collection so special, however, is that it supports Breast International Group BIG, and breast cancer research. BIG is a not for profit organisation based in Brussels, Belgium, that works with 59 member groups worldwide, including NCRI-BCSG (National Cancer Research Institute – Breast Cancer Clinical Studies Group) in the UK and the Canadian Cancer Trials Group in Canada.
Their mission is to facilitate and accelerate breast cancer research internationally. The network promotes knowledge and shares expertise and data while retaining independence from industry, respecting the ethical conduct of studies and applying the highest scientific standards.
With more than 1.6 million diagnoses every year, 1 woman dies from breast cancer every minute and male breast cancer accounts for 1% of all breast cancers. BIG brings together the world’s leading breast specialists to combine resources and multi disciplinary expertise in an effort to understand and ultimately stop the spread of this brutal disease.
A massive 5% from the sale of every Women candle is donated by Baobab Collection to BIG. That money goes towards funding studies such as the BIG Time for Baby study, which aims to enrol up to 500 women who have had hormone sensitive breast cancer and give them the opportunity to plan and try to become pregnant without waiting many years after completing their endocrine treatment. More information on the study can be found here.
