Ask your #WCW with Liv from Oh Pep!

This week we’re crushing on Liv from Oh Pep!

Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Oh Pep! is made up of Pepita Emmerichs and Olivia Hally.  The pair met 10 years ago while attending a performing arts high school in Melbourne.  Pepita just happened to walk down a hallway past Olivia,  who was about to sing a song and asked if Pepi, a guitarist, would join her on stage.”When we started hanging out,” Olivia recalls, “we immediately started making music together.” Adds Pepita. “We both loved musicians like John Prine and Lucinda Williams, who hit you really hard with their incredibly honest work. Studying music, we both understood the importance in instruments and arrangement, but we were also really drawn to lyricists.”

Ever since that fateful day, Liv and Pep have wowed audiences with their virtuosity as instrumentalists and their knack for musical storytelling that won over the hearts of their fans. After graduating, they booked their own tours-mainly clubs or folk festivals-and just never stopped. In 2015, they entered a contest to win a spot at the Folk Alliance International festival in the U.S. A few years later they played the same festival,  where they met Billy Bragg. He invited them to play a show with him in Adelaide. “We walked off-stage at this show, and he was like, ‘What are you doing in June?’ Do you want to play my stage at Glastonbury?”  The answer was a resounding yes.  That festival put them on the same stage as their heroes Lake Street Dive, Martha Wainwright, Valerie June, The Mountain Goats, and of course Bragg himself. And the band has never stopped from then.

The duo have two albums under their belts, their debut Stadium Cake and their brand new sophomore effort, I Wasn’t Only Thinking About You…. That record drops October 26th on ATO Records, but Oh Pep! have a little teaser in their new single and music video for “What’s The Deal With David”.  Directed by Samantha Scaffidi. Of the bright, irresistible sing-along track, Oh Pep!’s Olivia Hally’s notes, “I wrote that as a note for (bandmate) Pepi (Emmerichs). It’s that excited energy about two friends talking about their love life.” Watch the video below:

The latest album shows the band staying true to their light, airy and honest sound, while showcasing a sonic evolution that fans hope to see in their fave artists work.  We’re excited to hear the album in its entirety this week, but until then, we’re learning about what makes Liv’s heart beat just a little faster in this week’s WCW!

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

I would like to say how much they make me laugh, but history would show me that some deeper part of me is noticing how authentic this person is to themselves, whether I’m laughing or not.

What’s the best date you’ve ever been on?

The best date I can recently remember was going to see a trashy movie at Nova, eating mussels and drinking wine at Tiamos, ice cream at Pidopipo and browsing through Readings bookstore.

What’s your instant deal breaker?

I’ve learnt this truly over time, but it’s a no go if someone doesn’t value your energy. This is good in romance as it is in life in general.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

Many years before I got together with the person I’m now dating, he left a boiled egg with a note written on it in one of our egg cups at merch. That was something that I hadn’t seen before.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to other men/women out there, what would it be?

I think it would be to listen.

Describe your love life in one word

Interesting.
