Take a read of Kate’s thoughts on love, dating and dog ownership. You’ll see what I mean, just read!

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

Definitely their smile and the way they carry themselves. I am drawn to simple confidence…which is really different from arrogance.  I am also really attracted to someone with a great sense of humour.  Personally, I love to have fun and be silly, so I like someone who can also let go and not take themselves too seriously.

What is your ideal first date/what’s the best date you’ve ever been on?

An ideal first date is probably a sporting event or something that doesn’t feel like a date-date. I find dating stressful!  As much as I love to get dressed up, I also love wearing my jeans and Converse and being relaxed.  Gosh, I’m such a jock.

I think one of my favourite dates was when we went to a Blue Jays game, and we had a rule where anything we ate or drank, had to come from a cart.  We were fighting against the typical “first date, fancy restaurant” stereotype and had so much fun. I also hit the gym pretty hard the next day!

What’s your instant deal breaker?

How a man treats strangers is a make or break moment for me. I think it really shows the kind of person they are.  I once went on a date with man who jumped out of the car to help someone cross the road. That relationship lasted a long time. Conversely, I was on a date with a man who was trying to show off, and treated our server so poorly that I had to apologize to her when we left. We didn’t make it to a second date. Oh, and another deal breaker? I have an 11-year-old rescued dog named Jackson. He’s my best friend. What’s the expression… Love me, love my dog?  But seriously, everyone loves my pup… he’s sort of a rock star.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

Well, I had someone pick up all the dog droppings in my backyard once. Talk about trying to win me over! I also had someone put my face on a mug. Lovely gestures, but strange.

Describe your love life in one word.

Um.
