Our #womancrushwednesday this week is Alexis Young, the beauty and brains behind Youngblood!
Inspired by the likes of French electronic duo Air, the fiery Grace Jones, and a little bit of sultry Nancy Sinatra, Youngblood is Alexis’ creative dream-pop brainchild. Alexis cut her teeth in the music scene as the keyboardist/vocalist for the new wave group Sex with Strangers. Now on her own, she’s created her own signature and unforgettable sound; dreamy, marshmallow sounds laced with dark, pulsating grooves, crafting a unique blend of pop. Her first single ‘Easy Nothing’, saw her working with producer Kevvy Mental (Fake Shark, Carly Rae Jepsen), while her latest single introduced a collaboration with the multi-disciplinary Parker Bossley (Gay Nineties, Mounties, Fur Trade) and Juno-nominated DJ and producer Sleepy Tom (Fool’s Gold Records). In “Feel Alright” Youngblood challenges perceptions of success: self-image, wealth and finding love. Embodying these cultural paradigms throughout the video, Youngblood touches upon the unavoidable tendency for us to seek validation through cliché measures of success. See for yourself; watch the video below:
