This week’s #womancrushwednesday is Alexandria Maillot.
Born and raised on Vancouver Island Alexandria is a pop artist who’s swoon inducing, bedroomy tunes are making fans fall in love with her all over the country. She’s spent the past two years cultivating her dreamy sound for her recently released full length album Time. The album is a follow-up to her debut EP Just Another Girl released in 2012, the same year that she was a Top 20 Finalist in the Peak Performance Project in Vancouver. The recording of Maillot’s debut EP was a project spanning several years with the production for the EP taking place during the critical years of adolescence; thus, her new album Time is an apt illustration of her personal evolution – the sonic entity born from undiluted chaos. She wrote the first single ‘Sunday Sara’ during the budding of a new relationship and the song explores that feeling of being vulnerable and honest, and the feeling of being exposed that sometimes comes along with that openness. What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?
If they have kind eyes.
What is your ideal first date/ what’s the best date you’ve ever been on?
Anything that involves/involved food.
What’s your instant deal breaker?
Gum disease. Got to brush AND floss.
If there was one piece of advice you could give to other men/women out there, what would it be?
If your date ever makes you feel bad about your weight, you should probably shoot them. No, but seriously, obsessing over your weight and creating your own food aversions is not only a little bit crazy but honestly not what life is about. Be happy with yourself, and whatever you decide to do body-wise/image-wise, do it for you and no one else.
How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?
Making an official night of the week “Date Night”. It gives me something to look forward to every week and is a constant reminder of just how fortunate I am to be with someone who looks forward to a weekly date night as well.
