Ask your #WCW Haikaa

For our last #womancrushwednesday of 2016, we wanted to feature a truly sweet soul, and here she is: meet Haikaa!

Haikaa is a singer/songwriter whose sweet voice is only matched by her heart of gold. With roots in Brazil, Japan, and the U.S., Haikaa draws inspiration for her songwriting from her multicultural background. Her honest, emotional filled voice brings to life songs filled with universal themes that her global audience can’t help but relate to.

Haikaa released her first album, Work of Art in 2011.  Pulling from her own past experience as well as her hopes for the future, Haikaa covers such topics as love, empowerment, the search for genuine happiness, and the courage to change. Raw, honest and driven by passion, her voice and her music are pure and refreshing in a world full of artifice.

Haikaa’s mantra is “Honor yourself. Honor Others. Honor the planet”. Her mission is to strike a balance between these three principles. In her own words: “#HonorYourself is about making music for me. It’s about my ability to listen to this voice within and expressing it creatively. #HonorOthers is my desire to live in a world where respect is the very least we can give each other. It is my belief that the appreciation of diversity is so much more stimulating than the attempt to homogenize thinking and behavior. #HonorThePlanet is to extend this sense of respect to the bigger home we all share, our planet.”

Take a listen to a special edition of the title track of Work of Art below. In this version Haikaa sings in 19 different languages, embodying her mission to honor diveristy and inspire mutual respect in everyone through her music.

Enjoy Haikaa’s insightful take on romance below!

What is your definition of romance?

One part dream. One part passion. One part love. Respect to taste. Shake well and enjoy.

What’s your instant deal breaker?

Self-confidence is hot, vanity is not.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to other women out there, what would it be?

Content over form. True love is the one thing in life that keeps getting better and better with time.

Describe your love life in one word.

How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?

Control is to conflict what freedom is to love. The inevitable unpredictability that accompanies freedom keeps relationships and romance alive.
