Ask your #MCM with Theo Tams

This week we’re crushing on Theo Tams!

A native of Alberta, Theo found his first claim to fame through Canadian Idol, where he won the show’s final season at only 23 years old.  Nearly10 years have passed since that win launched him into the music industry, and over that time Theo has truly cultivated his own sound, style and sense of self.  His recently released new EP, Call the Doctor, is the culmination of those years of work, both on his music and himself. With some inspiration from the likes of Sam Smith and Adele, Theo adds something deep and powerful on his own, drawing from his experience of growing up gay in a small Alberta town, and being forced to keep your love a secret, because no one understood.

Check out the beautiful rendition of his single “Strangers” here:

We got the chance to chat with Theo about love, romance and being who you need to be.  Read on up below!

What is your instant deal breaker:

Anything even remotely homophobic, racist, prejudice, etc. At the end of the day, love is love, when did we start losing sight of this? It’s actually maddening for me.

Describe your love life in one word:

Best piece of romance advice ever received:

This is directly from my mom- keep it interesting. At the end of the day you have to continue to woo each other; you HAVE to. It’s all in the small things, pay attention to the smallest detail in each other, that way you can fall in love again over and over again.

What’s the first thing you notice about a potential love interest:

The sound of their laughter. I think you can tell so much about someone from how they laugh. Maybe it’s the singer in me but I definitely pay attention to someone’s laugh. I grew up in a family that laughed a lot, and always way too loudly, so I’m attracted to people that aren’t afraid to howl hahaha.

Best date I’ve ever been on:

One of the first dates with my partner… we went to Taste of the Danforth, ate a lot of Greek food, had some great beers- and when we were walking back to my apartment we ended up getting caught in a torrential rain storm. We ran our faces off thinking we could outrun it and then just embraced it, got soaking wet, made out, it was totally my Julia Roberts moment. Haha.
