This week’s #mancrushmonday is the gorgeous and talented Kyle McKearney, founder and frontman of the Calgary-based alt-pop band The New Electric. Along with his brother Shade and fellow members Daz Coppins, Jimmy Jannetty and Chris Avalos, the band has a great sound, a new single, and a bright future full of fangirls and fantastic musical adventures coming their way.
Inspired by great pop rock bands like Imagine Dragons and Maroon 5, The New Electric aren’t shy to go straight pop too (think One Direction or Ed Sheeran) to give their fans the kind of music they are craving, while still staying true to themselves. That’s how the band’s brand new single “Life’s What You Make It” came to be. The band worked with legendary producer Brian Howes (Hedley, Simple Plan, Boys Like Girls, Eleven Past One), who even helped co-write the single, and produced the band’s debut EP. In Kyle’s own words, the song “was inspired by living life to the fullest. Just being who you are, loving yourself and trusting in your heart that you will live happily no matter what. It all comes down to happiness, and we feel ‘Life’s What You Make It’ it the best way to remind our fans to live it up!”
Along with being a talented singer, musician and songwriter, Kyle is also a total heartthrob and a sweetheart, and that’s why he’s our #mancrushmonday. To all the gals out there crushing on him, and the girls that have a crush on him but don’t know it yet, this interview’s for you!
What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?
In my experience it’s always been the person’s eyes! Every time I’ve fallen in love, it’s been the peepers that have drawn me in and have taken me from the, “man, this girl is awesome” to the, “Will you marry me?” Haha.
Who would you want to have make the first move?
These questions are making me blush… I always usually make the first move, but there have been times where I have been moved in on, and I must say, those times were some of my favorites!
What is your ideal first date?
I think I’m still a kid in this capacity. I’m a movies guy. I like picking someone up, taking them to the movies, buying them popcorn then slowly moving in for a little hand holding.
What’s your instant deal breaker?
Someone who is mean. I’ve been in situations where my date has been mean to the restaurant staff and to the person selling us ice cream. A deal breaker? I’d say so!
Who do you go to for dating advice?
I go to Mr. Google!! I search for activities and cool things to do. It’s different for me now because I’m a married man. I have the wonderful responsibility of keeping dates fun, fresh and inexpensive (haha). For example, the other day, we went to an outdoor Shakespeare play down by the river. It was magical, something we’d never done and was free!! When things are hard or when I need human advice, I always call my dad or my brother.
Keep up with Kyle and the New Electric on all their social feeds and stay tuned for news of their EP, dropping soon!
