This week we’re crushing on Temi!

Temi is an R&B artist from Toronto, whose name means “mine is worthy of thanks” in Yoruba.  Growing up, his older brothers got him hooked on the music of motown, with Babyface becoming an early influence.  He was soon entering talent competitions to get his musical skills noticed.  To Temi, “Music is the person I talk to about life. It doesn’t judge, it just listens.”  Soon, it would become his career.

Temi rose through the R&B ranks with the group Disturbing the Peace (Def Jam Records).  He toured accross the U.S. with superstar Ludacris.  Now, Temi is breaking out on his own, and set to debut his debut solo record Alternative Soul, very very soon.  Take a listen to his single “Where your heart is” below:

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

I don’t think any one thing in particular draws me to a woman. What I notice in women varies and I’m usually able to find beauty in all women.  But if I had to narrow it down I would say it’s a woman’s eyes.  I truly believe “the eyes are a window to the soul” and I can tell a lot about a woman by looking at the sincerity in her eyes and really tell what kind of person she is.

What is your definition of romance?

My definition of romance is doing whatever it takes to have that moment to show your special person how much you really care about them and putting that smile on their face.

What is your ideal first date/ what’s the best date you’ve ever been on?

Even though I’m a creative person, I’m not super extravagant when it comes to first dates. I mean, I could think of doves and roses falling from the sky, lol but I would much rather prefer an afternoon or evening where I can get to know someone.  A simple conversation at Timmy’s, or even something fun like go karting would be great.

This is going to sound a bit sad but I don’t think I’ve ever had any amazing dates.  I’m grateful to say that I’ve had the opportunity to have had long lasting bonds/relationships with some amazing women but no date that stands out enough to me to give it that title.  I guess that’s probably why I’m still single J

What is the best piece of romance advice you have ever received?

I haven’t ever received romance advice to be honest, but I have received great relationship advice that has helped me more and that I will try to pass down to my son when he’s of the right age. That being said, the best relationship advice that I’ve received came to me in two parts.  The first is that it’s important to make sure that the person you choose to be with, is your best friend/partner.  The second I learned with growth and from making a lot of mistakes in past relationships.  The hardest part of getting over those relationships was forgiving myself for not being perfect.  I had to come to the realization that no one is perfect and the key to true love is to find someone whose imperfections are perfect for you.

How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?

My focus and my love for so long has been my music, so I guess I’ll find out when that special someone comes my way.
