This week we are crushing on Sam Margin from The Rubens!

Hailing from Menangle, New South Wales, Australia, The Rubens are a band of brothers (and friends) who’ve made a name for themselves with their pop rock stylings.  The three Margin brothers, Elliott, Zaac and Sam as well as friends Scott Baldwin and William Zeglis, have been making music together since 2011. Their last album, Hoops (2016) was certified ARIA Gold while their title track is now ARIA Certified Platinum and was awarded #1 on Triple J Hottest 100 Chart. They’ve also opened for several major acts including Bruce Springsteen, The Black Keys and Grouplove. And now the Ruebens back with a new album, and some new eyebrow-raising collaborations.

The lead single for the band’s upcoming album (slated for release very soon) came from some very auspicious beginnings.  The band met and befriended  New York City rapper, EL-P (Run The Jewels) and his producers/collaborators, brothers Wilder Zoby and Little Shalimar (aka Torbitt Schwartz) at 2013’s Laneway Music Festival. A few drinks at later at Torbitt and Wilder ‘s NYC bar, and musical magic started to happen.  It only took a few years to come to fruition.

Fast forward to Sydney, early 2017, when the Zoby brothers came to Australia to put their influence on “Million Man”.  I’d say the collaboration was a great idea, wouldn’t you? Check out the video for “Million Man” below:

Get to crushing with us now!

What is your definition of romance?

Life being made better by spending it with someone who makes you happy.

What’s the best date you’ve ever been on?

Late night comedy in NYC followed by a few drinks in a dive bar.

What’s your instant deal breaker?

Eating noisily. Is that shallow??

Describe your love life in one word

Easy

How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?

My life in the band requires me to travel alot. It can make keeping a relationship together pretty hard at times, but me and my wife have learned to deal with it I think it actually makes our relationship stronger. I think being forced to miss one another is a healthy thing. We really make the most of the time we have together and it does keep our romance fresh.
