Ask your #MCM with Joseph of Mercury

This week we are crushing on Joseph of Mercury.

Normally I take the time to write a little introducing on these features, but Joseph’s bio reads so much like a poem that I couldn’t bear to deprive you of it:

Born to the dying synthesized bells of the 80′s.

Reincarnated from the velvet gentleman of the 50′s.

Influenced more by the haunting sounds of nature & cinema than by music itself,

Joseph spins cavernous worlds of light & ocean, longing & romance…

all with nothing more than the sound of his voice.

Seduced by the beauty of fashion & design,

enraptured in its drama & detail,

Joseph cloaks himself in the colors of their world,

as they are enveloped by the echoes of his sound.

Striking the same ground as the likes of Roy Orbison, Leonard Cohen, Morrissey & David Bowie  – Joseph Of Mercury cuts an artful swath through the worlds of modern music with a true depth of sound and emotion.

Check out his single “Angel” for a glimpse into Joseph of Mercury’s mystical universe.

Easily one of the most whimsical interviews I’ve ever done, I’m happy to say I am so very charmed by Joseph, and I’m sure you will be too.

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

I will happily fall to the cliche & say ”the eyes”, but equally I would say the voice, or maybe I’ll just say whichever gets to me first…

What is your definition of romance?

Overwhelming thoughtfulness, when your mind begins to experience the world as nothing more than a means to an end. Everything you see everything your hear becomes valued against whether it’s for them, whether it can bring you closer to them.  All the things that this state of mind drives you to do, that’s romance.

What is the best piece of romantic advice you have ever received?

Well I would say, & It also happens to just be great advice in general, “Don’t open your mouth unless you have something to communicate, & even then ask yourself if words are truly the best way to make them understand”

What’s the strangest thing you have ever done to get a love interest’s attention?

It’s not that strange… maybe a little obsessive… & it’s not really one thing that I’ve done,

I generally just always listen for “insights”.

Perhaps someone mentions something from their childhood or relative youth…

Perhaps something they lost or loved, wore out, or gave up.. & then I find it… I scour the globe, until I find it.

Some obscure item that they mentioned in passing & now it’s suddenly in the palm of their hands.  It’s the look on their face that’s the most satisfying… the disbelief. & that’s what I enjoy, playing with & inspiring moments of “disbelief”.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to other people out there, what would it be?

Become fascinated by your own mind, & your own potential to learn & deepen your understanding of everything around you. So that you can come to not need anyone, & instead know, what it is to truly “WANT” someone.

Describe your love life in one word

Goldmine

How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?

I think in any relationship the key is to not let illusions outweigh or overpower the truth of things…

& the truth is, you do not own love – you do not own someone’s time or affection,

you earn love, you earn time, you must endeavour to be worthy of affection.

This is a daily, hourly, moment to moment practice, that should leave you striving to be more,

for them, for yourself, for the rest of your life, because why not, & what else is there.

It’s not about fear or lack of self-worth, it’s about ambition, & potential, & wanting to be the very best version of yourself for the person you claim to love most, & so you can experience the very best love, the very best life together.
