This week we’re crushing on Jason Bajada!
Jason Bajada was named one of Montreal’s very best songwriters from the moment he stepped onto the music scene with his independent debut (Puer Dolor 2005). After a couple of self-produced releases, he finally signed to MapleMusic Recordings and released his critically acclaimed album Loveshit in 2009, winning music fans over from all around the world with a unique brand of luminous/warm melancholy musings.
In 2013, Jason signed to the very prestigious Audiogram label in order to explore his previously unvisited french inspirations. Le résultat de mes bêtises (2013) was recorded at the legendary Studio Victor with members of Broken Social Scene, Patrick Watson, Karkwa & Kings of Leon and his followup Volcano (2016) earned him a l’ADISQ nomination.
This year, Bajada returns with an epic double album which has once again been praised by critics all around and sees his songwriting surpass anything he’s ever composed. Loveshit II (Blondie & the Backstabberz) is his greatest achievement yet. A poignant deep dive into the heart and mind of an artist on the brink of full collapse. A tour de force inspired by seduction, excitement, betrayal, depression, suicidal tendencies & of course…toxic love. Take a listen to the single “Jojo” here:
Let’s learn about lovin’ with Jason below!
What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?
Aside from obvious physical attraction, just feeling that uncontainable fire. I need to feel like I’ve been dropkicked in the jaw and stunned. That rush of NEEDING to drive hours just to spend 10 seconds with the person. You pretty much know if it’s f$#k yeah, or f$#k no right away.
What is your definition of romance?
Allowing yourself to be carefree in being completely cheesy. Making something that is considered mundane memorable. Being thrilled to do absolutely nothing with a person and for them to feel the same way about you. Everything can be romantic with the right person.
What is your ideal first date/ what’s the best date you’ve ever been on?
Meeting at a very specific address in a different town would be quite ideal/epic. I imagine looking up some ice cream shop in a random city & say something crazy like “let’s meet at Scooter’s Frozen Custard in Chicago at 2:14pm next Tuesday”.
What’s your instant deal breaker?
A bad laugh
If there was one piece of advice you could give to other men/women out there, what would it be?
Separate bills on the first date. Always. If you guys fall in love, then take turns. But never expect it and become complacent.
