Ask your #MCM with Jarvis Church

This week we have got a great edition of #MCM and #WCW for you guys! Lovers of gorgeous Canadian music, this week is just for you, and you’re welcome in advance. I know I’m not alone in finding our #mancrush incredibly crushworthy – I have ever since I heard his incredible voice on the Philosopher Kings‘ single “Hurts  to love you.” That’s right babes, I’ve got Jarvis Church for your #mancrushmonday toda.

Gerald Eaton a.k.a. Jarvis Church is a Canadian R&B singer-songwriter, music producer, and all around legend of the Canadian music industry.  Originally from Jamaica, Church currently lives in sunny Los Angeles. He first became a household name in the 90s as the sexy and brooding lead singer of the R&B-pop group The Philosopher Kings.  During the group’s 7-year hiatus, our mancrush launched his solo career, releasing the album Shake it Off in 2002 under the stage name Jarvis Church, a moniker taken by combining two parallel streets in Toronto, and that made me wonder why I hadn’t figured that out earlier. The Philosopher Kings subsequently reunited and released a new album in February 2006, and Church put out his second solo album, The Long way Home two years later. In 2012 he released his 3rd solo album The Soul Station Vol 1: The songs of Sam Cooke, A Tribute

We decided to check in with Jarvis Church not only to get his views on romance (which are awesome, by the way) but to see what his musical adventures have created recently. Lucky for music lovers everywhere, the singer has a new album that was released  just days ago (on Dec 4th). The Soul Station series continues with Volume 2: The Songs of Curtis Mayfield, an album that pays tribute to the late soul singer and features two new original songs by Jarvis Church. So be sure to get your hands on this amazing record, and take some notes on romance with his answers below!

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

The first thing I notice in a love interest i’d have to say is posture, or how they get down on the dance floor. You can tell a lot about how someone makes love by the way they dance.

What is your definition of romance?

My definition of romance is really getting to know someone and then doing small gestures here and there tailored to who they are and what would make them smile. And then of course serenading them and convincing them to have breakfast with you lol wink wink.

What’s your instant deal breaker?

The thing that turns me off instantly is insecurity. Insecurity comes in various forms but the worst is when you meet someone and they are narcissistic and incapable of being genuine and having an authentic conversation. Intelligence is hot.

What is the best piece of romance advice you have ever received?

The best romantic advice I’ve ever received is from my wife. She told me the best relationships are the ones in which both people are best friends before anything else. Relationships can get complicated because of the physical aspect of them and other obligations and restrictions. That’s why it’s important to always remember that this person is your best friend for life and to treat them as such…respectfully.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

The strangest thing someone did to get my attention was when a lady sent her husband to hit on me for her……it was very strange lol. Different strokes for different folks!
