Ask your #MCM with Don from Young Ballers

Risk, real name Don Phillip is a Namibian artist and a co-founder of the group ‘Young Ballers’.

Raised in a Christian home, Risk was a quiet child and began writing poems at eleven years as it was the only way he could express his thoughts.

At thirteen, with the influences of Tupac, Eminem and R. Kelly, he began turning his poems into music, thus, his sound is inspired by his own personal experiences and of those around him.

Risk does Alternative Hip Hop and focuses more on a specific niche called ‘Sentimental Rap’. Risk’s music is poetic as he uses illustrations, parables, African tales and proverbs to channel his message to the listener.

He currently has a debut mixtape out since May 7, which landed him good opportunities.

What is your definition of romance?

Romance, for me is all about actions. It’s a never ending process. It is doing the simplest of things in a relationship to keep the fire burning.

What is the best piece of romance advice you have ever received?

Be yourself, reinvent yourself and lastly don’t try to copy from the movies.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

Aside from being a musician, I am a PC engineer by profession. During this particular time, there was a beautiful female client who always seemed to have a problem with her laptop and she would call me to her place to check it out. Most of the times, there was nothing wrong with it but she just wanted to see me. When there were no issues with her computer, she would request me to bring her movies and series to watch and when there were no movies to bring, she would ask me to teach her a little bit of French. Eventually we became friends and maybe a little more than that. She obviously confessed her intentions later on and I had a great laugh at her.

If there was one piece of advice you could give to other men/women out there, what would it be?

You can fight for love, you can fight for the person you adore but it’s all in vain if they don’t want to be fought for.
