This week we are crushing on Andrew Braun from Rococode.
Formed in 2011, Rococode is the brainchild of Vancouverites Andrew Braun and Laura Smith. Rococode has since made a name for themselves thanks to their hook-filled songs with lush synth textures and duet vocals. Andrew calls the resulting style “a marriage of our contrasting personalities.” That musical marriage has never been more evident than on their latest EP Young Ones, where Andrew’s sonic exploration merges with Laura’s power pop style to make some seriously addictive music.
The creation of Young Ones was adventurous, both musically and geographically. The album was written in Los Angeles, arranged at the stunning National Music Centre in Calgary and recorded at Monarch Studios in Vancouver. The resulting album is an adventure in synth, samples, hooky tunes and enigmatic pop. Take a listen to the title track “Younge Ones” here:
And of course, a musical duo for not one but two great crushes in one week! That’s right, we’ll be learning more about Laura on Wednesday for our #womancrushwednesday. Stay tuned for that, but for now let’s learn some more about Andrew, shall we?
