Addicts and Angels – A spa day for a friend in need with Caryl Baker Visage

When we started our Addicted and Angels concept, we got a great outpouring of support. People loved the idea and reached out to us to say so. Along with the accolades came the stories, of people who were going through something, and who could use a little something to cheer them up through the challenging time. We LOVE not only hearing these stories, but dreaming up ways to do exactly that; bring a bit of light to people going through some darkness. I’m going to share one story today, in the hopes that it inspires more people to look around them and see if there’s someone in their lives with a story.  You know how to find us!

So now, onto the story.

A few months back, a music industry friend, Jeannie Reid (head of Music City North) messaged me out of concern for a mutual friend.  Besides our love of music, the three of us also shared a deep love of animals.  We’re all self-confessed cat ladies, in other words. Our friend Diane (Foy, awesome music publicist) was going through some hard times, including losing two of her cats very suddenly on the same day(!). In Jeannie’s words:

“Diane has worked in the industry for quite some time now, and like most of us, has had her fair share of ups and downs.  Well, recently she has had too many downs.  Pretty much to sum it up, her life as she knows it has been flipped upside and shaken up.  The worst of it being that she lost two of her fur babies.  To have to deal with everything else and then to lose her babies, on the same day, is enough to make anyone crack.

Diane has held her head up and is continuing on, but I think it has been hard on her.  Being given your “Angel” treatment would bring a little brightness to the situation.  I personally would like to thank you if you can, in fact, do that.”

From one cat mom to another, I knew I had to do something. So I reached out to my pals at Caryl Baker Visage to see if they could give Diane a day of self-care, and a few hours to take her mind off her recent loss. And, being the awesome folks they are, CBV was more than happy to help.

Diane was invited to the Bramalea Caryl Baker Visage spa, where Anna Koniaris, CBV’s National Face Expert & Supervisor of Retail Operations personally pampered her with a facial, a brow shaping and a makeup application. Anna was an absolute dream to spend time with, and has an incredibly inspirational story herself.

A single mother for more than 25 years, Anna went from struggling to get by to becoming a successful businesswoman and beauty expert. In fact, she owned the spa where Diane received her beauty treatment, along with her vital role at Caryl Baker’s head office. “One of the reasons I choose this industry and have continued my “lover affair” for over 30-years with beauty,” Anna told us, “is because I believe in women empowering women. I went from riches to rags and back, I now live better than most and not as good as some. I am a real example that with a positive attitude and determination, where you are will not determine where you are going.”

We had an amazing day at the spa (Anna treated me to a facial and brow shaping as well, that’s how cool she is!) and enjoyed the rejuvenation that can only come from great skincare, fabulous makeup and being surrounded by strong, smart and savvy women. We even got to hear some personal tales from Anna about Caryl Baker herself. Having worked for the company as long as she has, Anna knew the lady at the helm well, and she sounds like a true spitfire.  We were literally surrounded by the strength of the feminine, and it was amazing.

We want to give a huge thank you to Anna and her team at Caryl Baker Visage for donating your time, product and amazing energy to our Addicts and Angels mission.  You’re the best!  Make sure to hit up CBV for your brow, skin, makeup and awesome lady time soon!
