Did you know that Wednesday is the new Friday? Well it is, and Addicted wants to get you into this new night groove by sending you to see Fanfarlo at Lee’s Palace on April 16th!
Fanfarlo makes scenic and thought provoking music, meant to be enjoyed on a physical and mental level. With three albums now under their belts, Simon Balthazar (lead vocals), Cathy Lucas (violin, keys), Leon Beckenham (trumpet, keys) Justin Finch (bass) and new addition Valentina Magaletti (drums) meander along in a musical journey that may overlap itself, but never sits still . The band’s third endeavor, “Let’s Go Extinct,” could be seen as a concept album about human evolution and possible futures, but it’s also a big beautiful pop record, and somehow manages to juggle both simultaneously. “All the songs we’d written seemed to deal in direct or roundabout ways with the things that the theory of evolution tries to answer: where the hell are we, and where are we going next?,” says Balthazar. “The weirdness of being this thing we call a person and the double weirdness of other people. So we set about dealing with the subject matter with all the flippant playfulness and childish seriousness it deserves.”
Fanfarlo’s music clearly intends on challenging the listener to think, outside or inside whatever shaped object he or she wishes to inhabit, but know that thought process will be happily and beautifully soundtracked. It’s also music that comes to life in an exceptional way when played live, and that’s why we at Addicted as thrilled to give one of our readers this wonderful experience.
