Addicted to Tech – Holiday Must Haves

Recently we tested out and learned about some of the best tech items available this holiday season from our friends at Future Shop. So in case you are doing some last minute shopping or are going to take advantage of boxing day sales we thought we would give you the low down on some of this years best in tech.

Wearable Tech

Wearable tech is one of the fastest-growing segments out there today. Last year saw the launches of the first Galaxy Gear (check out our review of the Gear Live!) and the first Pebble. Still, wearables were only sub category of smartphones last holiday season. In the past year many other manufacturers have entered the fray with various designs and functionalities – including companies like Martian smartwatches, the Tom Tom Runner, the aformentioned Pebble, and brain-activity-tracking Muse, and after testing many of these products ourselves we saw first hand the benefits offered from each.

Smart Tech

The rise of self-driving cars and augmented reality proves that we really are living in the future. This smart tech is moving further into the home and far beyond smart TVs. Companies are now integrating everyday items like thermostats, lights and front-entrance keys and allowing users to control them on their smartphones. This has given rise to new items designed to bring these all together in an easy-to-use way, like the Harmony One Ultimate home remote. (an honorable mention in this category also goes to the Logitech Illuminated Living-room Keyboard)

Portable Audio

Many Canadians see home audio as a must-have, but what about when they leave the house? High quality headphones are an investment, but also a necessity for those who are constantly on the go. Portable speakers, like the water-resistant Ultimate Ears BOOM, may not be a necessary part of life for most, but it’s impossible to go back once you’ve experienced the luxury of having full sound by your side wherever you go. An added bonus is that portable speakers are only getting smaller and more powerful.

Geek Squad

If the person on your list is not so into DIY installation, consider giving them the gift of Geek Squad to make the holiday season stress-free. It is also the perfect complement to home automation products. And this season, every Future Shop purchase comes with 90 days of free Geek Squad help through live online chat or via phone. It’s 24/7, so the Geeks are always available for setup, software or troubleshooting questions.

So if you are buying last minute for the techie in your life, or are looking to pick up something for yourself over the Boxing weeks sales, check out the full line-up of the best in tech that Future shop has to offer this season.
