Addicted to Love? Toronto tries out for The League

There’s a hot, new members-only club launching in Toronto. It also just happens to be one of the most exclusive clubs in the world. Have I gotten your attention?

What if I told you this club wasn’t actually a club at all. It’s actually a dating app.

That’s right. The hottest ticket in town is a coveted spot in The League.

The League is an invite-only dating app designed to help aspiring power couples find each other’s better halves. Founded by Amanda Bradford, a Stanford MBA Grad with an undergraduate degree in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon, the League is modeled after private members-only clubs like Soho House and the Spoke Club, but in dating app form. And with half million person waiting list built from around the globe since the apps 2015 launch, I’d say Amanda is off to a great start.

“Think of The League as a member’s only club, but one with a killer singles scene,” Amanda explains. “We’re a community for intelligent, ambitious and high-achieving people that are looking for an equal partner.

There are a few things that put the League in a league of its own in today’s dating app market. Its selective admissions based model has created a particular caliber of people within its community of users. These are high powered, high achieving and highly accomplished individuals who are looking for the other half of the power couple they want to be a part of. It’s proprietary algorithm uses data from Facebook and Linkedin to give its users complete privacy from friends & coworkers (so you can’t match with your boss!) And, because the league is all about exclusivity, users will no longer be victims or perpetrators of the dreaded spray and pray swiping technique. The League limits the number of matches you can have at any given time, giving users the chance to actually make real connections with their matches without being overwhelmed or distracted.

Already operating in over a dozen U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Austin, New York and Miami, the League is finally making inroads into Canada. Its first stop? Toronto of course.

There’s already a 10,000+ person waiting list for the Toronto edition of the League. So far, 2000 of these individuals have been selected as Toronto’s founding members. Applicants were selected based on things like their degree, education institution, profession, industry, number of referrals, and more. On August 22nd, the League will launch in Toronto, and these founders will finally be able to potentially meet their matches.  Check out some stats on Toronto’s first League members here:

We got a little taste of what the League is like this past week in a series of curated parties, another League specialty. From rooftop cocktails at King West hot spot Lavelle to a private dinner at Soho House, and wrapping up with a picnic under the star, Toronto definitely likes what the League has to offer so far. Check out some photos from Lavelle below:

Think you have what it takes to be in the League? Then download the app today! It’s available for Android and iOS here.  If you’re in Toronto, you’ll find out if you’ve made the cut on August 22nd. Good luck, and happy dating!
