Whether we like to admit it or not, most of us spend our lives looking for love, waiting for love, or at least being open to the possibility of love. But what does that really mean? What is love?
If you are one of the many who I’ve met over the years, love is a Disney movie where a handsome prince comes along and changes you and your whole world forever as you live happily ever after. Or maybe it’s a harlequin romance novel where you are leading a boring life and the perfect someone comes along and shakes you to your core and you become so madly in love with that person you’ll never let them go. Maybe you could be like Carrie from Sex and the City and the right man could be in front of you the whole time but you were to much of a dimwit to see that love for what it’s worth. Or maybe you just weren’t ready until your head caught up with your heart. So with that all being said, what is the look of love?
Well, instead of being fixated on this perfect ideal that movies and stories have created, maybe the look of love starts with the little things. Maybe it’s someone standing by you through the bad and celebrating with you in the good. Maybe it’s someone you can laugh with, talk to, and enjoy the big moments right down to the small. Maybe it’s as simple as someone who brings you coffee in the morning and then at the end of the day, kisses you goodnight.
Sometimes I think we spend so much time trying to make things turn out the way we had envisioned them that we don’t see what is right in front of us. So maybe the look of love is different for all of us, or maybe it’s as simple as finding someone whose existence just makes our world. If you are like me, and believe you only get one shot at this thing called life, at the end of the day don’t you want to be with someone who knows how to bring a smile to your face and enriches all the moments along the way?
To me, that is the Look of Love.
