Earlier this year, I wrote about a silly and fun app that I had discovered. It was called Bristlr, and it had the auspicious goal of united the bearded with the beard admiring for purposes of beard adoration, dating, love, or whatever else two adults capable of beard growing and beard loving would want to get up to together. Not a fan of online dating, I actuallly enjoyed the kitchiness and relaxed attitude that Bristlr users, bearded and non bearded alike, seemed to exibit. So when the makers of Bristlr contacted me with a bit of a crisis, I had to step up and help spread the word. What kind of crisis could a bearded dating/non dating app be facing? A shortage of beards!
Having launched in October of 2014, Bristlr have taken the dating world by storm. With more than 90,000 users across the globe, Bristlr have made more than a third of a million matches, proving not only that we haven’t reached peak beard, but that there’s much more beard loving to be had, but not enough beards to have it with.
That’s right everyone. Says the team from Brislr: “there’s a world shortage of beards under way as demand outstrips supply. Commonly known as “Tinder for Beards”, the folks at Bristlr have noticed that their app is currently hosting more people looking for a date with a bearded human than people with beards available for dating. That’s right, Bristlr have run their numbers and found that for every 10 people with good beards, there are 19 people wanting to find a bearded partner. This statistic is also exibited right here in our fairt city of Toronto. In the good ol’ six, for every 10 people with good beards there are 21 people looking for a bearded partner. To put that into perspective, on boring, non bearded Tinder there is actually a shortage of beardless women, with men aching for partners instead. That’s right, for every 10 guys on Tinder there are only 6 women.
According to CMO Stephanie Wedderburn “as one of our users put it… lots of people just want ‘a man with a good beard’. We’re experiencing a huge demand for more bearded men here in the UK, in Brazil, the US, Spain, Germany, and even China! We often get personal requests from women asking us to bring more bearded men to their area.”
That’s right bearded men of the world. You are wanted, you are loved, and if you’re willing to sign up for Bristlr you might even find someone to appreciate, stroke and condition your beard, and other parts of you if you’re both so inclined! So head on over to Bristlr.com or download the app for your phone, and get your beard lovin on!
