Addicted to Canadian Music Week– Nadia’s picks

I love this time of year. The sun is shining (finally). I’ve put my winter coat away (finally). And walking around outside is no longer a form of unavoidable torture (FINALLY). It’s also Canadian Music Week, the first great music festival of the year, and I for one am hankering for a huge dose of amazing live music.

For its 33rd birthday Canadian Music Week picked out a killer lineup for itself. Headliners includeThe Jesus and Mary Chain celebrating Psychocandy‘s 30th anniversary, Kiesza, GoldLink, LIGHTS, FIDLAR, King Tuff, Billy Talent, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Cloud Nothings, and the incredible Daniel Lanois just to name a few. With each passing day CMW would tantalize fans and music lovers alike with new additions to this vast list, from huge acts to indie up and comers.  Over 1000 bands will take over stages big and small at more than 60 venues across our fair city, and the fun has already begun! That’s right, in 2015 CMW started when May did, with more and more bands scheduled as the week goes on until the festival culminates this Sunday, May 10th.

With so many bands to choose from, my first suggestion is to download the new CMW app, available in the App store for iPhone, or to mosey over to the website (www.cmw.net – easy right!) to pour over the lineup and make your own CMW schedule to keep your musical cravings at bay. Here are just a few of my picks to help take you from Tuesday to Sunday, when the music really starts to happen this CMW.

May 5th

Jessica Chase – 9pm – The Dakota Tavern

Bond Girls  – 11pm – The Hideout

Made Them Lions 12:00am – Handlebar

May 6th

It’s Wednesday night, and you need to dedicate the first part of your CMW night the MusicOntario showcase and support our gal Emy Stantcheva in her daytime pursuits! She’s programmed a killer lineup too so it’s not like that’ll be a hard thing to do.

Slow Down Molasses – 8:30PM

The Dead South – 10:10PM

Poor Young Things – 11:00PM
