When I started ADDICTED I was trying to change my own life, and now, 5 years later, we try our best to use it to do as much good as we can. So when we heard about Sistema Toronto we just had to use our voice and show our support.
Sistema Toronto is a registered charity that provides opportunities to at-risk children in three of Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods – Parkdale, Jane-Finch, and East Scarborough. Their 250 students develop important social skills such as empathy, respect, and kindness while learning to play music together.
They receive instruction on orchestral instruments (violin, viola, cello, double bass), percussion, choir, and Music & Movement after school for ten hours per week and receive a healthy snack each day all at no cost to participants’ families.
When I first heard about the program, I was so moved by the fact that there was even a program that is teaching things like empathy and respect, something that I personally found lacking in my schooling, and since we are all about supporting the arts, and the fact that Sistema Toronto found a way to marry the two, well, how can you not support the cause.
And support we will!
Sistema will be holding their annual fundraiser in the coming weeks. We’ve been told it’s bound to be a great night with delicious food, great cocktails, fantastic music, and, yours truly and my right-hand lady Nadia will be there as well.
Here’s to hoping they double that will a little help from all of us.
