Addicted Inspirations: Lara Little from Lusome

This week Addicted is inspired by Lara Little, founder of Lusome.

Nightsweats; an unfortunate and uncomfortable reality for many women. A symptom of menopause as well as a side effect of chemotherapy, nightsweats can make it hard for women to get the rest they need. Lara, a fashion industry veteran, saw a void in the marketplace. Women needed specialized sleepwear that helped with their discomfort, and so she founded Lusome.

Lusome is a line of sleepwear made of an innovative new fabric, designed to wick away sweat and keep skin cool and comfortable. Prior to founding Lusome, Lara acquired a plethora of experience at Mark’s Work Wearhouse, where she was in charge of buying, design, and sourcing. It was her customer focused strategy, specifically on solving problems for women through unique textile innovation, that lead to huge increases in sales.  Now Lara is using the skills and expertise she cultivated to help women through fashion yet again.

Lara’s line uses xirotexTM, their proprietary technology brand that excels at moisture management.  With its dual layer construction of blended fibres (cotton, micromodal, polyester and spandex) xirotexTM uses a push pull mechanism to move moisture. Simply put, the poly fibres closest to the skin are hydrophobic, and pull the moisture to the surface where the hydrophillic fibres push the moisture into the air. There’s a bit more to it than that, but Lara can’t give away all her secrets. Suffice it to say, Lusome sleepwear is as functional as it is fabulous.

Fashion with a purpose, and women helping women; for these reasons and more, we find Lara Little very inspirational. Take a look at some Lusome below before getting to know Lara for yourself.

How did you get involved with the work you currently do?

After 20+ years as a fashion exec with large corporations, I wanted to create something that actually did good.  The world didn’t need another fashion brand.  I leveraged all my contacts, built a business plan, raised capital, took 2 years to perfect the product and launched to a captive audience of women desperate for a beautiful solution.

What is your WHY?

We wanted to create a fashion brand with a purpose.  Seeing my sister wrestle through Breast Cancer treatment and years of symptoms we had to do something to help.  Over 80% of all women suffer with night sweats at some point and we wanted to help them feel Beautiful and be Comfortable.

How do you do manage to do it all?

I surround myself with smart and hardworking people and let them manage their area of expertise.  I prioritize my efforts on the customer experience.  I wake up everyday to serve this woman and make her life easier, more comfortable and give relief in a small way.

What are the biggest challenges/setbacks you’ve had to face?

Educating boutiques and customers on the technology and getting them to try.  There is a skepticism that there could be ANYTHING that gives relief.  Once they try it they are hooked!

Who inspires you?

My mom, smartest person I know.  She juggled work, school, family, volunteering and so much more with grace and a genuine love of life.  She taught us there were no short cuts to hard work, to be independent and live your life using the golden rule to guide us.

If you could pick one charitable organization to ask our readers to donate to or volunteer with, which would it be?

Canadian Cancer Society.
