16 Not So Basic Beauty Must-Haves for Summer

When I think of summer, I think of glowing skin and a radiance that makes people question whether you just a swallowed a unicorn whole. You know, that subtle glow that looks like you just walked out of the ocean (minus the salt water in your eyes and sand in crevices we won’t speak of).

That’s why I tailored this not-so basic beauty must-haves list around achieving healthy, radiant skin, and then some. But I wanted it to be honest, so I took it upon myself to test out each and every product. These are the products I ended up loving and will definitely buy again!

Check out 15 not-so basic beauty must-haves to try out this summer (you can thank me later)…

NIU BODY Glow Facial Serum – $35

Being someone who already has oily skin, I typically don’t like using these types of serums, but NIU BODY’s Glow Facial Serum was actually lovely. Made from a unique blend of camellia seed oil, jojoba oil, bergamot oil and Vitamin E, I found it didn’t sit on top of my skin, but effortlessly soaked in. My skin is basically comparable to a newborn’s ever since I started using it!

Epic Blend Coconut Lemon Body Lotion – $17.99

OMG! They weren’t lying – the smell of this body lotion is epic in my books. I actually wanted to eat it because it smelled so deliciously like coconuts and lemon zest (two of my favorite things). This lotion is perfect for hydrating normal skin types or date night because it smells so edible.

Skin Perfecting Body Scrub – $30

Okay, so I’m going to let you in on a little secret…. Even if you don’t get waxed regularly, (I literally get waxes like once every two years) Fuzz Wax Bar’s body scrub works just as well for exfoliating before and after shaving. Kick the razor burn to the curb with this nourishing scrub injected with coconut oil and castor seed oil.

Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Masque – $62

I literally cannot stop raving about Dermalogica products! The line is one of the huge reasons my gross adult acne cleared up, so naturally, I’m obsessed with the Skin Hydrating Masque. Being someone who reviews facials, my face sometimes resembles that of a dragon, especially right after peels. This mask packs such a good punch of moisture back into my skin.

Sea Berry Therapy Cleansing Face & Body Bar – $9.79

I don’t know about you, but I literally can’t exfoliate my skin enough in the summer. Between spending loads of time outside, sunburns, and dryness, it’s one of my favorite things to do in the shower for a little r&r. Sea Berry Therapy’s body bar is perfect for the task; it’s filled with detoxifying sea buckthorn, and has little granules in it that feel so good on your skin.

Earth Luxe 100% Virgin Coconut Oil – $9.95

I think it’s safe to say that almost everyone is coo-coo for coconuts these days. What’s great about Earth Luxe’s 100% virgin coconut oil is the packaging! The jars you buy from the grocery store get messy AF, but this container is all about ease of access. Plus, I somehow find the coconut oil less greasy, and more melt-y.

Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner – $17.49

I recently started using Thayer’s Witch Hazel Toner with Lavender oil when I switched over to primarily Dermalogica products and I also attribute it to clearing my skin. I can’t gush enough over this stuff as it’s all natural and is the first ever toner my strange skin hasn’t reacted too! Weird, right? Up until I used Thayers, my skin broke out from every other toner.

Maui Moisture Colour Protection Shampoo + Conditioner – $9.97 (each)

The Colour Protection Shampoo + Conditioner is my new go-to for my tresses because it smells like the ocean had sex with something fruity. I found it had an awesome lather in the shower and left my hair super soft. It’s also suitable for colored hair as the name suggests, which is great since a balayage costs a trillion dollars.

OGX Protecting Silk Blowout Thermal Spray – $9.97

I recently became obsessed with doing at-home blowouts and I’ve always styled my hair with a flat-iron at like maximum heat (sometimes I smell burning), so this protecting spray by OGX was much needed! Not to mention it also speeds up drying time – that’s my type of magic because my hair be thick!

OGX Locking + Coconut Curls Finishing Mist – $9.97

If you’re reading this around children, cover their eyes and don’t let them see this: the smell of the Locking + Coconut Curls Finishing Mist basically made me orgasm. It gives total mermaid vibes to your locks and smells just like you were on a beach somewhere in the tropics. It’s also not crunchy, which is nice for when the opposite sex wants to run his fingers through your hair.

Dermalogica Skin Perfecting Primer – $73

Once again, I am OBSESSED. Being a makeup lover I see primer as a must, but I’ve always wondered if a lot of them are even good for your skin? This one actually is and does over time, not just prepping your skin for makeup, but also improving the skin texture with velvet-y silicones and soy protein. It also has SPF30 in it, so if my day is low key, I pop this on, fill my eyebrows and I’m done.

WUNDER2 Brow Gel – $34.95

So, more on the topic of eyebrows, how did I ever live with them plucked so thin in grade school? I’m still working on repressing that memory, and WUNDER2 Brow Gel makes it hella easier. This gel is crazy AF and works just as well as the FaceBook ads promise! I wore it all day at the beach and my brows stayed intact! However, I will say that I preferred using an angle brush over the applicator.

E.L.F. Barely There Blush – $3.99

The only thing I love more than a good makeup product is a good makeup product that’s dirt cheap. Clocking in at $3.99 E.L.F.’s Barely There Blush cannot be beat. I love the fact that it’s a cream blush – I find it way easier to do a no-makeup, makeup look using cream-based products, as they go on more subtle and elevate your skin without being too obvious.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette – $55

This eyeshadow palette by ABH is LIFE! Seriously, it has the best colors for summer: lot’s of gold and earthy tones, including both matte and shimmery finishes. I also find the pigment in these shadows to be very good and I surprisingly use more than only two colors (what happens a lot with my eyeshadow palettes).

Maybelline Fit Me Concealer – $9.99

If you’re new to makeup you might not know what a dupe is, but essentially it’s a cheaper product that mimics a more expensive version. After doing a ton of research (and testing it out) I can confirm that the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer is a total dupe for NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer. I love this product and it’s become a staple in my makeup bag.

Maybelline Master Chrome Highlighter – $12.99

You might be surprised, but Maybelline is actually one of my favorite drugstore makeup brands! I also can’t get enough of their Master Chrome Highlighter. It comes in both gold and your standard pinkish kind of highlight, and boy does the pigment deliver. I use this highlight daily for a dewy, radiant glow or I layer it on top of a cream highlighter to punch of my glow with evening looks.
