12 Not So Basic Beauty Must-Haves for Spring: Rejuvenation

Sick of dull, lifeless skin? It’s time to kick your beauty regime into high gear this spring, and rejuvenate the hell out of your biggest organ. Winter sucks literally and figuratively; it seems like all the moisture and plumpness has been pulled out of my skin. That’s why right now rejuvenation is my main concern, especially since I prefer going makeup free during the sweaty summer months.

Lucky for you, I’ve tested out a plethora of products to find a mix that will do just that. Add a little (or a lot of) extra moisture here, some brightening there, and more suppleness everywhere, so we can all bloom into the beautiful spring flowers that we are. While it’s one thing to add glow with cosmetics, it feels so much better when you can achieve plump, gorgeous looking skin, without much makeup.

Take a look at 12 not-so basic beauty must-haves for spring below. Whatever suits your fancy (one, two, or all of these goodies), add it into your routine and watch your skin begin to improve and glow from within.

Elizabeth Grant Uplift Roller – $49.99

This facial massager by Elizabeth Grant is incredible. While I can’t attest to it giving you a non-surgical facelift it definitely feels very relaxing and no doubt gets the blood circulating throughout your face. I love using it on my cheekbones and jawline, like a lymphatic massage to stimulate cell turnover. Another plus is that you can also use this anywhere on your body; whatever your heart desires.

Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Cleanser – $56

The key to supple skin is making sure you’re adding enough moisture into your skincare routine. Even if you don’t suffer from dry skin (I don’t), you might find using a cleanser like Dermalogica Intensive Moisture two to three times a week will help nourish depleted skin. It’s especially important to do this if you’re using acne fighting products, or peels since they tend to dry out skin.

Rodan + Fields Active Hydration Serum – $131

Keeping with the theme of moisture, until recently, I never used hydrating serums. I thought that since I have combination oily skin, I didn’t need more moisture. However, it’s actually quite the opposite since your skin produces more oil to combat dryness. The Active Hydration Serum by Rodan + Fields made a noticeable change in the plumpness and suppleness of my skin, as well as reducing oiliness and breakouts.

Olehenriksen Banana Bright Eye Creme – $48

The Banana Bright Eye Creme by Olehenriksen literally smells delicious! This colour-correcting eye cream, reduces the look of dark circles and fine lines. While I personally don’t suffer from dark circles, I did notice my under eye area looked slightly firmer. The yummy smell also just makes the act of putting this cream on therapeutic.

Skeyndor MyMask Fruit Jam Renewing Peeling Mask -$65

While adding hydration into your routine is paramount, it’s also good to have a product that will resurface your skin. Skeyndor MyMask Fruit Jam is a great at-home facial peel that targets clogged pores without drying out skin. I find using this once a week in combination with a hydrating serum really helps to even out skin tone and reduce blemishes. Bonus points for the fact that you only need to leave this mask on for five minutes.

Rodan + Fields Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid – $76

One of the keys to keeping your skin looking fresh and rejuvenated is to not wear heavy and clogging foundations throughout your daily life. There is definitely a time and a place for total glam, but on the daily keep it light with a tinted moisturizer so your skin can breathe and also show through. The Radiant Defense Perfecting Liquid by Rodan + Fields is a triple threat with SPF 30, light flexible coverage, and skin perfecting properties.

Olehenriksen Banana Bright Face Primer – $46

Okay, I understand that primers can seem unnecessary, but if you do enjoy using them under makeup, I would recommend trying Olehenriksen Banana Bright Face Primer. A lot of the cheaper primers don’t do anything past allowing makeup to go on more smoothly, but this guy brightens, blurs, and primes. It can also be used as a super subtle highlight by dabbing on the top of the cheekbones.

Fenty Beauty Killawatt Highlight in Wattabrat – $44

Obviously, having skin that glows on its own is the goal, but there is nothing wrong with using highlight for a little extra oomph. I’m obsessed with Fenty Beauty’s new Killawatt Highlight in the shade Wattabrat. The universal glimmering pink is flattering on all skin tones and can be used as a blush, highlight, or eyeshadow. I simply just love it for creating a not-so subtle, but still natural looking glow.

Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint in Uncensored – $30

Lipstick is a great way to elevate your daily makeup look, without packing too much product on your skin. A vivid red shade like Fenty Beauty’s Uncensored Stunna Lip Paint will bring out the warmth in your face and looks ultra chic. I love doing a bold lip while having the rest of my beauty look focus on flawless, natural looking skin.

Marc Jacobs Velvet Lash Primer – $33

Another trick to look rejuvenated is with big, fluttery lashes that will open up your eyes and make you look awake, even if you’re incredibly sleep deprived. Marc Jacobs Velvet Lash Primer is amazing for creating a thicker base that will give your lashes an enviable false look without being too over the top. I always make sure to curl my lashes first, to open up the eyes even more.

Tarte “In Bloom” Eyeshadow Palette – $49

This eyeshadow palette by Tarte is EVERYTHING to me right now. Made with amazonian clay, this palette is the perfect mix of mattes and shimmers. Whether you looking to create a very natural matte look, or a summery glowing eye, I find these shades universally flattering and well pigmented. Pro tip: add the shimmery gold shade “funny girl” to the inner corners of your eyes to brighten and add a youthful awake-looking appearance.

Milani Hypnotic Lights Eye Topper – $12.99

The Hypnotic Lights Eye Topper by Milani is so lit. Compliment your supple, flawless skin, with a shimmery bold lid that will transition you from day to night. Being a liquid shadow, this topper has a heavily pigmented, foil effect and I find you don’t need much more makeup elsewhere as it pairs the best with natural, juicy skin. It’s compact design means it’s easy to carry around – it’s perfect to pop on top of your daytime shadow or bare lid when socializing after leaving the office.
