One of my favorite events of 2016 had to be Scotch Camp, an elaborate outdoor tasting experience for the Last Great Malts of Scotland. Not only did I get the chance to learn about scotch, I was in a beautiful setting, surrounded by a great group of scotch lovers. And while it’s a bit too cold to go back to scotch camp, we’ve got a great experience to give away: a Rabbie Burns Supper and Whisky Tasting hosted by the Caledonian Pub!
One of my favorite Last Great Malt Scotches was Craigellachie 13. I love how its rebellious nature starts with its odd year aging and continues with its stubborn, smoky taste (you know how I love a rebel). Scotch with a touch of brimstone, this single malt sits in the heart of Speyside. A rebellion in a glass, Craigellachie refuses to bow to modern-day commercial styles.
Craigellachie’s rebellious nature comes from its origins. Built by the stubborn Peter Mackie in 1891, the Craigellachie distillery was described as old-fashioned even at that time. He used an old-fashioned and rare whiskey production method using ‘worm tubs’ to cool the vapor down and condense the spirit back into liquid form. This process results in the whiskey having less copper contact during production which creates strong, meaty flavors .
Typically considered a more masculine drink, it’s my mission to get more ladies loving scotch, and that starts with this contest. We’re partnering with our friends at The Caledonian. This amazing Scottish bar, located in the heart of downtown Toronto, is heaven for scotch lovers. From its warm and cozy atmosphere, its delicious and authentic Scottish cuisine and the amazing people (staff and clientele alike), I love spending time at the Caledonian.
Which brings us to our prize!
We’re giving away a Last Great Malts Tasting experience, hosted by the Caledonian. One lucky reader and a guest will join a room full of scotch lovers for a Rabbie Burns Supper and Whisky Tasting. This 3 course dinner and 3 course whiskey tasting will feature some great Scotches and traditional Scottish entertainment. Between highland dancers and bagpipers you’ll leave full, thirst quenched and thoroughly entertained. Best of all? The winner will also get to take home a bottle of Craigellachie, one of the featured Last Great Malt Scotches!
