If there’s one thing I’ve learned this year, it’s the importance of taking care of yourself. Whether that’s a trip to the spa, eating the right foods or just spending a little bit more time in bed, treating yourself for the good of yourself is so important. That’s the philosophy behind Sahajan.
Sahajan is the first of its kind – a beauty brand that combines the ancient wisdom of Ayurvedic tradition with the power of modern organic science. The name comes from the Hindi word Sahaja– meaning Intuitive. The line cares for you from head to toe with serums and creams fused with natural ingredients; Amla(Indian gooseberry), with more than 20 times the vitamin C as an orange, Gotu Kola (Indian Parsley), an herb with anti-aging properties and Neel oil to fight dark circles. I was given the Sahajan discovery kit, containing a face serum, a nourishing face cream, an amazing eye cream and the most heavenly scented hair oil I’ve ever tried. So for the 6th day of our 12 Days of Giveaways I’ll be giving one lucky reader that amazing kit for his or her very own!
I got a chance to chat with the lovely and brillian Lisa Mattam, founder of Sahajan, to learn about why she started this line and what Sahajan means to her.
What inspired you to start Sahajan?
The moment of inspiration was when I came home and saw my daughter covered in my face cream. After being overwhelmed by how cute she was, I immediately asked her to take it off as I was concerned about what all those chemicals (from the products I previously chose) were doing to her. I directed her to the products I use for her, ones that I had used as a child, ones that were based on the ingredients my family and generations before me had trusted- ones where you didn’t need a degree in chemistry to read. I thought , “isn’t funny, that the standards that I have for her are so different than the ones I have for myself”. I wondered why I had walked away from what I knew to be intuitive for me and what I realized was that what I perceived to be family tradition was even deeper than that- it was a tradition steeped in Ayurveda.
What is the biggest point of differentiation between Sahajan and other beauty products out there?
That it’s based on the 5,000 year old practice of Ayurveda from Ancient India- featuring natural and plant based ingredients but it’s been modernized to reflect organic science.
What are you hoping people get out of Sahajan?
To me, this line is for women or men, who are mindful of the choices they are making. I want this line to support their wellness- I want them to know that they don’t have to sacrifice results for natural and organic skincare and most of all, I want them to nurture themselves and I hope that Sahajan is one way they can do that.
