We’re right in the middle of the holiday season, and I’m not sure about the rest of you, but I am definitely feeling it. While all the holiday parties, with their free flowing wine and endless supply of treats are wonderful, they’re taking their toll on my ability to fit into my clothing. I know I’ll have to hit the gym sooner or later, and so will many of you lovely readers out there. So for our tenth giveaway of this holiday season, I’m hooking one reader up with my latest fitness addiction, Orangetheory Fitness!
At its core, Orangetheory is a combination of interval and group training. Participants use a variety of equipment, from cardio machines to free weights in a fast paced, 60-minute workout. Every person in the class wears a heart rate monitor, the purpose of which is the crux of the Orangetheory philosophy.
With their monitors strapped on, each class participant’s vitals, including heart rate and calories burned, appears on the screens in the studio. With the screens as guides, everyone’s goal is to reach 84% of their maximum heart rate for 12-20 minutes of the class, known as the orange or red zone leading to EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption), more commonly known as afterburn. Once that’s achieved, the body can burn calories for up to 36 hours after the workout.
Aside from being a miraculous, extended benefit workout, Orangetheory puts the fun back in fitness. Between the passionate coaches and the group atmosphere, I found myself more motivated to push myself further in my workout. I also found that the class flew by – it hardly felt like an hour. I had such a great time, I knew I’d be back. And that’s why I wanted to share it with you guys!
For your New Year fitness needs, we will be giving away an Orangetheory swag bag filled with all the goodies you need to be ready for your new 3-month membership to the studio that’s most convenient to you. And with studios opening across the country, there are a ton of options.
