Today we at Addicted are proud to share with you the Canadian premiere of “What Love would want”, a song by Tim Arnold.
Last week we had the pleasure of featuring Tim as one of our Addicted Inspirations. A prolific songwriter, a brilliant collaborator, and one of the most open minded and kind hearted people I’ve ever met, Tim’s music is not only beautiful but so very impactful. The power of his work is exemplified by his new song “What Love would want.”
“What if, for a second, we forget what the law wants, forget what the church wants, forget what the police want, forget what our leaders want, forget what our family, our parents, you or I would want and instead, ask what love would want?”
In Tim’s own words, that is what “What Love Would Want” is all about. It’s a simple, poetic song about unconditional love. It’s also an anthem, the theme song to champion a very important cause: diversity and love without barriers or shame.
Tim was inspired to write “What love would want” by many things. Raised by two mothers, one being gay icon Polly Perkins (who hosted the UK’s first Parade in 1979), Tim knew from a young age that love took on many forms. More recently, Tim found inspiration from the He for She campaign, represented by actress Emma Watson. Finally, it was British actor Stephen Fry‘s speech on the Catholic Church’s condemnation of homosexuality that drove Tim to create this beautiful and healing song.
Tim described the video for “What love would want” as “a moving portrait of love with no limits. “Stephen Fry was the first person I played the song to after I’d finished writing it. I had an idea for the video so I asked Stephen if he and his husband Elliot (Spencer) would take part with other couples in what I saw as a collage of love and diversity. They graciously accepted and from that moment the project came to life.”
Stephen’s appearance in “What love would what” is pivotal. It’s the first time that he and his husband have appeared on film together. It was a huge honor for Tim, and it’s a huge honor for us to showcase this act of love and show of strength.
The video for “What love would want” will be published publically tomorrow, May 17th, to commemorate International Anti Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia Day. But you can watch it here first right here on Addicted.
