While it might seem to Torontonians that the entire country revolves around Ontario and its largest city, SST Cosmetics have been building momentum and making a big impact out West for a while now. SST Cosmetics are luckily coming East and bringing what Prairie girls already know about.
SST Cosmetics is a luxury brand based out of Saskatoon, founded by Sharon Sharpe-Titus a long time makeup artist and entrepreneur. The best thing about the line of cosmetics Sharon has created is the quality of the formulas without the harsh chemicals. Plus, my all-time favourite – no testing on animals!
The 3 in 1 Tinted Primer and Moisture Kick, although a little dark for my skin tone (it comes in “Light” and “Skin Tone”) did very good job at covering the redness on my cheeks without looking like I had caked makeup on. It was also very moisturizing without feeling slick and smoothed out my pores, as all good primers should be. You can wear this under your foundation, but for those who prefer a simple morning routine you could honestly wear this on its own for smoother, glowing skin. The formula contains Vitamin E, Hyaluronic Acid, Red seaweed extract, and tourmaline and no parabens.
I really liked the Moisturizing Lipstick in #XOXO, part of the #FACETIME Collection. This would be amazing for anyone with dryer lips, which with the winter we have had is pretty much everybody. #XOXO is a neutral pink and is versatile to suit most skin tones. It contains Grape seed oil, Cocoa butter and Vitamin E so really does help moisturize your lips. The lipstick lasted quite a while but as with most lipsticks, I did need to reapply after a meal.
The two Shadow sticks I tried, #OMG (also part of the #FACETIME Collection) and Water Lilly are both great colours for most skin tones and are long lasting and easy to apply, two things most people look for in eye makeup. #OMG is a neutral greyish brown and works well as an eyeliner, a base for a neutral smoky eye or in the crease as a shadow. Water Lilly is frosty cream colour and is a great highlighter, I put it in the inside corner of my eye to highlight and make my eyes pop. The shadows are water proof as well as water based and really do last. I have quite oily eyelids and I did not find any creasing throughout the day. With shadow sticks the best way to apply is to smooth on the lid and then blend with a shadow brush (or your finger).
Overall a really great line of products addressing some of the issues consumers have with other luxury brands – chemicals, preservatives and unnecessary additives. It’s great that SST Cosmetics have been able to come up with some great products which feel nice on your skin with some great natural ingredients.
Also let’s all support some home grown brands – recognize the talented people and superior products we have in Canada. So far SST Cosmetics are available in a number of salons in Western Canada and will be available for us Central and East Coast luxury beauty aficionados very soon. However, you can order their products online at their store, which has the full collection of beauty tools, skin care and cosmetics.
