Ask your #WCW with Kendra Kay

It’s #womancrushwednesday and the lady of the day is Kendra Kay!

Kendra is a singer who is known for her high energy performances and down to earth personality.  The music bug bit this one early; Kendra has been performing since she was only 8 years old. She was encouraged to pursue that early passion by her family and music teacher, which gave her the chance to perform at rodeos, music festivals and radio stations in her native Manitoba.

Inspired by the sounds of traditional country music, Kendra made her way to Nashville, Tennessee, the capital of her musical dreams. There she met songwriter and producer Jeff Jones who became her mentor and collaborator. It was Jeff that helped confirm what Kendra already knew: her musical talent was real, and from that point on, she devoted herself to her musical career.

Kendra went on to perform around Nashville and other parts of the U.S. and Canada. She released her first single “It was”, co-written by Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Jason McCoy and Natasha Zimbaro with Jeff producing. Kendra released her debut EP Broken in 2014, releasing more singles and taking her live show on the road once again.

Kendra’s latest single ‘Swinging Door’ has surpassed 100,000 streams on Spotify and generated strong Western Canadian radio play. Take a listen to it here:

Recently Kendra undertook her biggest promotional tour to date, she has opened for Jess Moskaluke, Doc Walker, Aaron Prichett and Blackjack Billy. And we know the future is bright for this budding country star. Get to know her better now!

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

The first thing that I notice, as cliché as it is, is personality.  I am a true country girl and a good ol’ cowboy is a must!

What is your definition of romance?

My definition of romance is a long horseback ride down by the river in the late evening of the summer with my man. With the craziness of work and life all a couple needs is to enjoy the peacefulness of nothing, together!

What is the best date you’ve ever been on?

The best dates I have ever been on are the types you can’t buy. Going mudding, hunting or riding can’t be beat! You really get to know a person on dates like that.

What’s your instant deal breaker?

Instant deal breaker is a man with an extremely big ego. Confidence is key but there a fine line between that and being cocky and that’s where I draw the line. When a guy thinks he’s all that, chances are he’s not.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

The strangest thing someone has done to get my attention was one time at a show, in the middle of a song, a guy threw a sandal at me on stage so he had an excuse to come up and talk to me to ask me for it back.
