Ask your #WCW with Kayla Diamond

This week we find ourselves crushing on Kayla Diamond!

Kayla, a Toronto native, was raised in a modern orthodox Jewish family. Her original career choice was actually to become a lawyer. While a respectable career that her family surely would have approved of, lawyering wasn’t what fate had in store for this gal. And while “pop star” wasn’t a job title she imagined for herself, Kayla soon learned that you can’t avoid your destiny. a career as a pop singer, wasn’t something she ever imagined for herself.

Like many singers, Kayla found inspiration in a familiar place: the land of love, and heartbreak. Reeling from her sadness, music became an outlet and songs kept pouring out of her. And the industry sat up and took notice. Kayla won Slaight Music’s It’s Your Shot Contest in 2015 and landed a recording contract with Cadence Music. At that point, Kayla was 6 months into her first year in law school. She made the tough choice to postpone her academic studies to focus all her attention on music.

Now Kayla has an EP, Beautiful Chaos on the way, and she’s definitely not looking back. She’s worked with several DJs including  Kiso on collaborations including a cover of Mike Posner’s “I Took a Pill in Ibiza”, the song receiving over 4 million streams on SoundCloud. She also covered pop hit “I Don’t Want To Live Forever”   by Zayn and Taylor Swift. Her most recent collaboration with Anveo on the track “Feel Something” has received more than 3 million streams on Spotify. Those collaborations have received notable praise from the likes of Tiesto, Gareth Emery, Axwell and more. B

Kayla has teamed up with producer Craig McConnell on Beautiful Chaos. Check out the first single from the album, “Carnival Hearts” here:

What is the first thing that you notice about a potential love interest?

If they can challenge me in the right ways. It’s really sexy when someone can keep up with witty banter and throw my sarcasm right back at me.

What is the best piece of romance advice you have ever received?

Ok, so one day my dad brought home an aloe vera plant that he loves and my mother absolutely hates. One day I caught her watering it, and I said to her, “Don’t you hate that plant? Why are you watering it?” And she answered, “Yeah, but he loves it, so I’m still going to take care of it for him”. Her answer made me realize what love is. No matter what, always take care of the significant other in your life, and be considerate of their interests.

What’s the strangest thing you have ever done to get a love interest’s attention?

One time I regretfully left a bar and didn’t give the cute bartender my number. I went back to the bar during the next day and feigned leaving my umbrella there the night before (it wasn’t even raining). Once I saw the bartender I confessed that there was no umbrella and left my number… it worked.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

One time, this guy from New York found me on Instagram, started following me, then found me on Facebook (which was not easy because I used to have a different Instagram handle!). From there, he saw we had one mutual friend, contacted her and asked her to introduce us. It was so bizarre (and he was cute) so I said yes, and then he flew in for the day to take me on a date.

Describe your love life in one word

Passionate.
