Ask your #WCW with Jessicka

This week we are crushing on Jessicka!

Jessicka is a Vancouver singer, songwriter, and pianist. Not one to minced words, Jessicka writes what she knows and lends her unmistakable edge and style to every song she writes. The most powerful, emotionally resonant work usually comes from artists who pour details of their own lives into what they create. Such is the case with Jessicka, who describes the overarching themes of her EP Uh Oh as “Coming of age mixed with coming to terms with reality.” Jessicka’s music is a unique combination of heady and dark lyrical content with driving rhythms an and sharp hooks reminiscent of Fiona Apple and St. Vincent. She’s also not shy about her love of pop music, fusing addictive vibes into thought provoking tunes.  Check out the video below and you’ll see what we mean.

And the best part? She’s funny too!  Join us in crushing on Jessicka below!

What’s the best date you’ve ever been on?

This guy that worked reception at the music school I attended invited me to his place for dinner. I went, he made lasagna and we hung out in his kitchen for a couple hours. At the time I had never done any drugs and he got a bit drunk and started smoking a joint and trying to blow pot smoke in my mouth. I was totally clueless! He tried to kiss me at the end of the night but I just ducked it and left. It was fun!

What’s your instant deal breaker?

Sprinting half a block to catch a bus at the end of a date and yelling “Bye” over your shoulder.

What’s the strangest thing you have ever done to get a love interest’s attention?

Straight up stalking. Not ‘waiting outside the house’ kind obviously! But you know, the somewhat obsessive ‘google the shit out of them’ kind…hanging out at parties knowing they’ll be there just to see them. Classy stuff like that.

What’s the strangest thing someone has done to get your attention?

I once got a note from a guy saying he cried on a bus for six hours because I never talked to him when he was around. I also got a very weird poem from a coffee shop guy.

How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?

Homemade lasagna and second hand pot smoke ;)
