Ask your #MCM with Illvibe

This week we are crushing on rapper iLLvibe.

iLLvibe is a Canadian Hip Hop artist based out of Toronto. Along with being a rising hip hop star, iLLvibe’s is also hella smart, as evidenced by his winning the season premier of the Television show Canada’s Smartest Person on CBC. He even performed on the show twice (talk about multitalented).

iLLvibe was also named runner up for Toronto Rapper of the Year by NOW Magazine (coming in second to Drake himself). He was the winner of 2 CUT Canadian Hip Hop Awards & Toronto Independent Music Awards nominee. No stranger to the stage, iLLvibe also performed at “Fresh Island Fest” in Croatia alongside Chris Brown & Wiz Khalifa.

These days, you can find iLLvibe collaborating with Myer Clarity. The pair have recently released an album together, We are the Aliens. Check out the lead single from the album “Down to Earth” here:

iLLvibe is also kind of a romantic, something we found out for ourselves by making him our MCM!  Take a read below:

What is your definition of romance?

For me, romance is about the connection. Two humans choosing to put their valuable time and energy into each other is a beautiful thing. To me, great romance is celebrating this connection.

What’s your instant deal breaker?

For someone to be attractive to me, they have to be focused and happy in their life as an individual person. So, in contrast, a deal-breaker for me would be someone who doesn’t have a personality and POV and dreams of their own. When I was looking for a partner, I wanted exactly that – a Partner.

What is the best piece of romance advice you have ever received?

A good friend of mine, Hip Hop artist Dan-E-O once gave me some amazing love advice that helped me change my romantic life for the better. It was very personal to my situation at the time, but the take-away from it was to really be real with yourself about the person you’re considering being with and what you need, and what they need. Where you’re going, and where they’re going. This helped me find the right person for me and my life. And now we’re newly engaged! :)

If there was one piece of advice you could give to other men out there, what would it be?

Communication really is the key to relationships. Romantic and non-romantic alike. Open communication with yourself about your needs and desires and goals. Then communicating those to the people you want to bring into your life. Many people act as if the relationships they’re in are an accident, when in fact you can surround yourself with people who really align to who you are. But that all starts with knowing who you are.

How do you keep the romance alive in your relationship?

We have fun. On the small side, it’s running jokes and playfighting/tickling. On the big side it’s surprises and travelling the world together. I try to keep the relationship fun though, life can be difficult and challenging. Other people will disappoint you and things will go up and down, but when the fabric of the relationship is playful and full laughing and smiling, you guys can deal with just about anything.
